The Lyrics

When tripping down the stairs collides with, well, a collision...
Guess I misjudged taking that one step
I must've presumed there were a few steps left
Between the edge of the stairs and where I was
And the end result is my knee lodged right in you-our balls

Feel like a twerp, I fell on you
This kind of clumsiness is not normally what I'm like
I really hope you can still move
I bet it hurt, I fe-ell on you

(I should've known be-etter)
When taking the stairs, shouldn't use a fast gait (and now you see-ee why)
A slower pace, you would not be a pancake (I should've known be-etter)
Less Sonic the Hedgehog, but not quite like a snail (and now you see-ee why)
This was a pretty long staircase, didn't move, why-y-y (feel like a twerp)?

Feel like a twerp, I fell on you (feel like a twerp)
If you'd moved a smidge, with paper, you wouldn't empathise (feel like a twerp)
Not saying all the blame's on you (feel like a twerp)
I'm still a twerp, I fe-ell on you

Anyway, how's your spine?

I'm such a twerp
Feel like a twerp, I fell on you (feel like a twerp)
As I was rolling, I thought "I hope no-one's down there, right" (feel like a twerp)
And then, of course, right there was you (feel like a twerp)
I'm such a twerp, I fe-ell on you

Are you sure you're all right?
Hmm, hmm, hmm
Hmm, hmm-hmm-hmm
Hmm, hmm, hmm
Hmm, hmm-hmm-hmm

Feel like a twerp, I fell on you (feel like a twerp)
And you start smirking, and at first I'm really not sure why (feel like a twerp)
And then I see I've not crushed you (feel like a twerp)
Cause I'm a twig and you-ou're large, dude (feel like a twerp)
I really thought that I smooshed you (feel like a twerp)
But those fears were unfounded, true (feel like a twerp)
I'm still a twerp who fell on you

I know that "melt" can mean to become more loving, like "my heart melts for you" or whatever, but what does "I melt with you" mean? Surely it should be "I melt for you"? Then again, "take on me" sounds like "bring it on" but I think that song's meant to be romantic, so whatever. 80's New Wave is weird, man.
