The Lyrics

By Jupiter, I believe I'm on an "Association" hot streak. CML is my alter ego to my first alter ego, which was Callmelennie .. which is a reference to Lennie in the Steinbeck novella "Of Mice And Men" Classmates at my High School called me this after we were assigned the book as Sophomores ... in tribute to my awesome physical prowess. Well, that's what I told myself. The OS, in contrast to " Mary" is easy to do. Makes for great parodies, too.
Who's peaking out from under a bullrush
Calling on George to give him more hell
Who's leaving town for stroking a chick's hair
Everyone knows it's Lennie!

Who's tearing up in barn near the bunkhouse
Crying 'bout a puppy he kilt
Who's reaching out to fracture a punk's fist
Everyone knows it's Lennie!

And Lennie's a .. timid guy
In spite of e ..normous size
And Len has a thing for mice
And other sof'* things
(He loves sof' things)
And other sof' things
(He loves sof' things!!)

(Break to some kind of brief instrumental)

And Len doesn't want too much
'Cept tending a .. rabbit's hutch
And Lennie can't .. help but touch
All the sof' things
(He loves sof' things)
All the sof' things
(He loves sof' things!!)

Who's tripping out on banks of a river
Knowing he done another bad thing
Who's terrified that George will now leave him
Everyone knows it's Lennie!

WHO's tripping out on banks of a river
Crying out 'bout the "fatta' da lan'"
Who took a slug from Carlson's Luger
Everyone knows it's Lennie!
*Spelled like Lennie pronounces it

Here I thought Lennie was a reference to Linus Caldwell's alias of Lennie Pepperidge in the 2007 Ocean's 13 film. Thanks for setting us straight! A genuine 555 vote!

It's gotten to the point where I can't trust any identifying name on this site, much less my own. This reads more like a Biden Bash with all the refs to hair fetishism, but would the "real" CML actually write something that pastes "his" name so self-deprecatingly? 555 if one had no context of the historical background of this "person". I am still scratching my head. Frankly, every time I see the pseudonym "Callmelennie" I think "CALL MELENNIE", a post-it note to telephone one's bestie. Security Code: DRY.

You probably were never required to read the novel "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck then. Lennie is the tragicomic lead character. He's a man of enormous size and strength who has the mind of a five year old. He's an itinerant farm laborer who travels around rural California furing the Depression with a childhood friend George, who tries to keep him out of trouble. Lennie keeps a dead mouse in his pocket so he can pet it; hence the word "Mice" in the title. He has a true fetish for "soft things" like mice and puppies, but he's so strong and clumsy, he'll eventually kill them. Lennie's tragic demise occurs when the tramp wife of the son of one of the bosses allowed him to stroke her hair. And of course he starts getting too rough, and the woman begins complaining which makes Lennie freak out and accidentally kill the woman ..... Before the tragic ending, lots of things Lennie says are iconic laugh lines ... George will be mad; I like sof' things; I get to tend the rabbit's. There are references to Lennie in Warner Bros cartoons; "Which way did he go, George?" is clearly an allusion to Lennie

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. So tomorrow, “Let’s Be Thankful” for one thing: No unfunny, b@ll$&!t “parodies” from Herbie Kaye…or from me, for that matter.
