The Lyrics

Part of my "50 Shades of Pop" self-challenge. Dada. Anti-art. Weird for the sake of weird. Let's sing about it!
Not just random, girl, i-it's the who-ole plan
More tha-an random, girl, meant to be-e mad
Yo

It's part of a movement to make art so crazy
All because we don't deserve real artwork, do you get me?
W-W-Way too many wars, so here's a Mercedes
Cut in half and lib-er-ally splattered with hot gravy, uh
Why'd I do that? Cause I could, man
And there's no crap "deeper meaning" in it (i-in it)
It's just pure dreck, doesn't make sense
Not meant to, can't whine, already did it

Not gonna stop, my work's here to stay
Yes, it's a toilet half-painted grey
No symbolism here to explain
I make da-da-dada, make da-dada, hey
Stuck a potato into a drain
You say it's pointless, that means it's great
For what I'm doing, nought to explain
I make da-da-dada, make da-dada, hey

Not just nonsense, girl, i-it's the who-ole plan
More tha-an nonsense, supposed to be-e mad

There's no point in looking for the hidden meaning
In the ten bananas I glued to the ceiling
I-I told you to stop cause there's no use in guessing
Why I use cooked spaghetti in all of my hat knitting, oh
Yes, I do that (oh-oh) because I can (oh-oh)
If you get mad then I will be laughing (l-laughing)
All this is meant to get you pissed
"Are these your nads? Why'd you photograph them?"

I didn't do this crap to get paid
Isn't post-modern, either, that's lame
I just wanted to get hackles raised
I make da-da-dada, make da-dada, hey
Welded a laptop to a steel grate
Hung from the ceiling, splattered with paint
Stapled on pictures of your shocked face
That's great da-da-dada, great da-dada, hey

Not just bollocks, girl, i-it's the who-ole plan
More tha-an bollocks, point is to be-e mad (yo, yo)

Expand my purview to film-making too
W-W-Won't need a film crew to film myself dancing nude (nudist)
Garg-l-ing orange juice to a similar tune
T-T-To "Someone Like You", that should leave you confused
I'll splice in footage of Déjà Vu
And animated cartoons, huh (yes, cartoons)
Half are HD, half bad rips from Youtube, huh (bad rips)
Then screen the whole thing at Cannes
Don't care if the-ey think it's good, just as long as it's crazy
But I hear you ask "That doesn't sound fai-air
To show art critics your pale derriè-ère"
Did I not make myself clear? My technique's
Meant to freak, wear folks down
There's no "fair" of which to speak, oh

Not here to trigger thoughts in your brain
At least not ones for deep meaning, lame
I just want shock, disgust and outrage
I make da-da-dada, great da-dada, hey
Draw zits on the Mona Lisa's face
Yes, I'll admit it's trolling, okay
I can't waste time on feeling ashamed
I make da-da-dada, make da-dada, hey

Not just bullshit, girl, i-it's the who-ole plan
More tha-an bullshit, made it to be-e mad

The "way too many wars" line is in reference to how dada actually started: folks decided that Word War I was such a brutal, devastating and ultimately meaningless conflict that such an ugly world didn't deserve art. It failed when people started to actually like it. You can still see its influence today in the time-honoured tradition of the Youtube Poop.

Not quite accurate history. Anti-art term started before Dadaism, coined by another artist. Dada started two years into the Great War in Zurich, Switzerland and spread. It was Anti-war, Anti-Nationalism at its core. I find that thinking erroneous. It was all about German 19th Century unification under Prussia and the growing power of the Kaiser and his Second Reich. France resented Germany over loss in the Franco-Prussian War and Britain was furious about the Kaiser's fleet meant to rival the RN (which would lead to Jutland). Other nations lined up between opponents and when war broke out (due to the previous assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife at Sarajevo) ALL combatants leapt for joy and marched proudly into that trench warfare mess. Germany took all the blame and thus the seeds were sown for a Second World War. I personally find Dadaism vulgar and distasteful, disrespectful to those who paid in blood not only for country but for freedom and/or justice.
