Normally, I don't shear my sheep with anyone, but due to the corrupting influence of certain contributors (ewe know who ewe are) I've decided if you can't bleat 'em, join 'em.

In my pastoral Oz childhood, there were many favorites. Candy Girl had the sweetest face. Fairyfloss was fleet of foot, with a fleece that would make Jason and his Argonauts go through it all again. Baabara, the dulcet Dorset, was a bleat heart. But lovely Lollipop topped the lot.

Shirley Temple would be proud, I'm sure ... and there actually was a commenter at one of moi's parodies who used the nick Shirley Temple, and the parody was not related to the actress/statesperson, nor to sheep. (It was about Windows Vista.)

Overall, good job, but I don't know why the Romneys are involved at all. Seems to be a cheap political shot (I am not a Republican) that is irrelevant to your theme and story. What about the Kennedys playing in Hyannisport?

Which Westernport? If in AUS, why would they be there? If the one in Maryland, USA, I don't think that Maryland is known for sheep-ranching.

I would dock a point for throwing the distraction of politics into an otherwise-delightful sheep-romp, but will abstain in the hope that there's some connection that I'm missing.

Thanks for the compliments and for 'blowing your cover', heh heh, though you're not the only one. I was kicking myself later for missing a great sub, actually: 'Happy landing on a chocolate bar' to 'Happy randy and the flock a lot baa.' Damn.

FYI-1, Romneys are a versatile breed of sheep, more common in NZ, primarily for wool, somewhat less for meat. They used to be called Romney Marsh (not to be confused with famed cricketer Rodney Marsh). As for that very topical GOP candidate, as a non-American I studiously abstain from comment, though I do have an opinion.

FYI-2 Westernport Bay is a deep harbor port east of Port Phillip Bay, Vic., on the latter of which sits Melbourne, my home turf. PPB has no slopes to speak of and few sheep, but WPB does.

FYI-3 As far as I know, there are no sheep on Botany Bay, just south of Sydney - it was 'geographic licence'. That fabled landing place of Captain Cook was regarded as too swampy and lowlying for anything, let alone sheep, so the first European settlement was established a few miles north at Port Jackson (Sydney Harbor). I believe most of BB has been drained and urbanized these days. With too much rainfall, sheep develop footrot, so are generally favored away from the coast, with dairyfarming dominating the latter.

Me complain? I *asked* -- seriously -- and am darned glad I did, because

1) Now I know more than I did yesterday. With any luck, I'll know even more tomorrow, and therefore, not remain at the present level of ignorance for the rest of life; and

2) You can't change a vote once it's in. You could vote again, but that wouldn't erase the 545 from the board.

I don't care to voice an opinion ATM on the former Gov, but of course as you said, he and the other three are extremely topical, with less than a month to go before the POTUS election. Their ads and news stories are inescapable. And sadly, this site is filled with political parodies containing cheap shots, slurs, and insults, as opposed to political parodies successfully lampooning a pol's blundering or downright evil. Yeah, a bit touchy there.

I'd have felt terrible to have down-voted wrongly. I think Onan mistakenly lauded what was perceived as a ref to the Governor, presumably because Onan's Nofan of his Mitt. (You'd think he would be, woudn't you?)
    Psst! Hint! This is why the (in-)famous TT fooTnoTes originated. US-ians are unlikely to know breeds of sheep in Aus-NZ. 555 now gladly awarded, and did you ever meet veteran AmIRighter Stuart McArthur, who still lives in Melb'n?

Thanks for suspending judgment, Tommy. I appreciate it. And yes, a couple of footnotes would have helped. I'll keep that in mind in the future. Can't say I recall Stuart, but Melbourne's population is around 4 million. Coincidentally, the godfather of the sheep industry in Australia is John McArthur. Possibly a descendant?

@ Peregrin: Come to think of it, Rodney was rather hirsute - and sported mutton chops. In his playing days Romneys weren't very common in Oz, but the Kiwis must have got some mileage out of it. Perhaps it's an advantage for a wicket-keeper to be easily led, lol.

@ Tommy I'm British-born as it happens, but just as disreputable as those pedigree antipodeans anyway. John McArthur was a gentleman farmer and free settler who arrived a couple of decades after the 'first fleet'.

As penance for above slur, I invite you to cast an unprejudiced eye over my forthcoming parody, 'Tricky Triggy', which has a math theme. Actually I have two in the pipeline. The other one is a dollopful of dubious double-entendres which should also be up your alley.

@ Andy: Thanks for the v/c and for dropping by. My family hails from the Manchester area (Rochdale). I was six when we emigrated, but I'd started school and remember a little.
@ Meriadoc: 'Dag' has slang meanings as well as 'that' one. It can mean unkempt, poorly groomed: 'Those jeans look so daggy'. It's also used for a card/character/life of the party type: 'You gotta meet Julie - she's a total dag!' Language is no exact science, eh?

Merry, my friend Wendy often refers to me as a dag. In my case, it is where I have done something silly or drawn the wrong conclusion from something that should have been obvious. In this case (at least, I hope!) she means it as a very mild insult, but not meant to be at all hurtful or taken seriously. Sort of like "You're an idiot, but I like you anyway". Dunno if that helps explain it?

@ Andy: Actually, dag = 'interesting/outrageous person' seems to be archaic nowadays. My ex and her friends used to use it but I haven't heard it in that sense for a long time. Actually I haven't lived in Oz for 17 years so I guess you could say I'm no expert on slang trends. One of my favorites more recently is 'shark-biscuit' = surfboard - so Australian..

In addition to Pippin's meaning of 'friendly chiding', another way I've heard it used is 'goofing off', as in 'Will you two stop dagging around and get busy'. Versatile word.
