"White Christmas"

Original Performer:

Bing Crosby

Parody Song Title:

"Wet Christmas"

Parody Written by:

Phil Alexander

The Lyrics

I'm dreaming of a wet christmas,
Just like the only ones I know
Where the treetops glisten as rain is pissin'
Down a carol singer's nose

I'm dreaming of a wet Christmas,
With every christmas card I get
And my days are filled with regret
Because all my Christmases are wet

You're dreaming of a wet Christmas,
And you can bet on that, I know
But your days are filled with regret
Because all your Christmases are wet

You're dreaming of a wet christmas,
Playing Christmas snow roulette
May you win your Christmas snow bet
But I'm betting Christmas will be wet

And my days are filled with regret
Because all my Christmases are wet

Really, the entire song is restating that there willo be a wet christmas. If you had expanded that song to something a little more, it would have been better. Still, met the pace very well.

But it's always a wet Christmas, round my way, anyway... so what more were you looking for?

Where WhizkidF? In England - pretty much all of it, most years.
Thanks, Pat :-)

Well, I liked it Phil. Didn't know you were from jolly old... Thought you were US. Couldn't detect any accent. You guys get the rain when Germany gets done with it. Been there, got rained on. You been workin' on any more comparodies? I still like that last one you did.

I've not got any new techie parodies in the immediate future, though you could always check out some of the older ones: http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/thetourists0.shtml or http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/georgeformby0.shtml - but, yes Guy, I'm in jolly old England...

Is it really that jolly? :) I have been looking up your techie writes. Some of them are quite good. You are an IM profession I gather or a great hack. Either way you know enough about the beasts to do some justice to the trade and parody writing, always a good combination. My first two parodies I had ever written were on tech stuff. First was Modem Hayes and then Beverly Hillbillie Gates. The Gates one I have out here is a remake. MS 2000 was barely even planned when I wrote the first.

Here in New Jersey, we usually get a wet Christmas because it doesn't get cold enough to snow. But we make up for it in January. Thirty inches on January 6, 7 and 8, 1996! Oy! As if we don't have enough flakes in this State!

Guy- yes, I'm a professional techie... have been for the last sixteen years or so (hence the appreciation of your EDLIN parody ;-) )
Michael - 30"!!! Maybe I'll just stick to the wet bit...

Mike? Present company included?

Phil - I knew you went back a bit into the techie arena because you knew about EDLIN. It was (is) a darn good editor and techie friendly but not user friendly. Can you imagine trying to get your customer base to use something like EDLIN? I can still find some uses for it now and then. But now when I do, I get that song stuck in my head. :) Now here's one that will date you but you had to be on a particular type of mainframe to know this one and I know for sure that DEC10s were used in gov. and industry back when in "jolly old" and that is an editor known as SOS. SOS was circa (1976-1985).
Phil - July 29, 2003 - Report this comment
Edlin may not have been the best editor around (I was a Norton user at the time), but it was the one that was always there with DOS... 'fraid I've not come across SOS, not having done much on DEC10s: the occasional VAX mainframes, OTOH...
Guy DiRito - July 29, 2003 - Report this comment
OTOH??? On The Other Hand???
Phil - July 29, 2003 - Report this comment
That's right - I started on Vax, ACT Sirius and Research Machines 480z & Nimbus computers.
