"Botox
B...b...b..b..b.. botox"

This is war!
Think the selling's tough?
Just think up somethin' to say about it
And then F*** with their heads!

Spout slo-gans every chance you get
Make a muddle of the facts
You know to win we've got to
Brain wash the masses and drill
Our message in until they buy the spiel

You don't need everything so
Cherry pick the po-o-olls
Choose the words that have the right slant
Then go live with your chant
Drone on

All you need is a good sound byte to
Drive the suckers in the ground
Make 'em fear we could be overthrown
Say "America is safer now!"

Five suits have got your back, they will
Echo every word you've said
They own it all no need to
Sweat they'll debunk or reveal
Cuz baby they determine what is real

Research shows us that they'll sway back and forth, so
You need to screw with their heads
We'll succeed by being pedantic
The saps are so easily led

Yeah he served, a vet, all right...
So just convince them he's tight with Kim Jong
If they check, discredit the mutts
"Avoid the traitor's movie, just stay home!"

Call gay love sacrilege - "sinners!"
Say "The lefty's tool looks French"
Don't let it go, you've got to
Make them forget how they feel
And make them all defend your lies with zeal

Repeat yourself
You've got to break them
Repeat yourself
"Pray, pray, pray" prey
"Osama's powerless, now"
Say it over, now
A phrase like "flip flop"
Is great, so say it a lot!

It won't take long, if they're force fed it
(Talk about his ugly old hag)
If you're proven wrong, just deny you said it

You can make 'em believe
You repeat yourself
"Nobody said it"
Repeat it now, "No Way!"

"We'll find those weapons yet" Say it!
"Biggest liberal, ever yet"
You know it's so, you've got to
Make them forget how to think
"We made you safer though the threat is real"

To make the sale
You've got to make them
Forget themselves
(Vague, vague, vague, vague)
So get to dumbing them down
Make them lo-ove the clown
They'll swear that he's not
If you've said it alot

Repeat yourself
Repeat yourself, "They, they!"
So if you want him around
Better get them bow-owing down
They'll buy what you hock
If you say it alot
Repeat yourself!

Oops... third line up from the bottom, the word "hock" should be "hawk." I started to go another way with the line and missed that edit when I changed my mind. :/
Johnny D - July 24, 2004 - Report this comment
Melhi, you're in-the-zone for sure with this masterpiece. Well done! 5's. All modern politicians seem to love to repeat repeat repeat ad nauseum!
John Barry - July 24, 2004 - Report this comment
One of the best political parodies I've seen. Also, excellent craftsmanship.
Melhi - July 24, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks John B. & Johnny D. Glad you enjoyed it!

Not taking sides here, and not 100 % up to date with US politics, but as a satiricist one has to love the Vonnegut-ical "Paragraph 22" type situation the Bush administration has gotten themselfs into. Either Al-Qaida is defeated and America safe, and then theres no more need for Bushs war on terror, or either Al-Qaida is not defeated, and America not safe, and then its better to let another administration take a crack at it...

Is the "Vague, vague, vague, vague" line a hint that youre gonna do "Vouge" next? ;-)
Melhi - July 25, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks K1! I probably won't do vogue, next -- the only line that pops to mind is "Strike your foes" to "Strike a pose" (free for the taking if someone else is suddenly flooded with ideas to write around that one little line) but as I was writing the "vague..." line, it made me think of that song, too.

I'm sure I'm just dense, but I don't get the botox bit. Regardless, nicely done. 5's.
Melhi - July 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Leo!

Botox is a reference to the "Kerry had Botox" spin that replaced real news for days on end a short while back.
Ashkicksass - July 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Another fabulous job, darling! I didn't hear that Kerry had Botox! And even though I like him, it certainly explains alot, doesn't it?
Melhi - July 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Ashkicksass! *blushing* ...and it sure does. :)
Spaff.com - July 31, 2004 - Report this comment
Melhi is the new Madonna. Hail Melhi, full of grapes.
Melhi - August 04, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Spaff... um... I think. ;D

(SOTM) Already commented as can be seen above.

Thanks for the re-visit, K1! :)

SOTM DKTOS, I never really liked Madonna. I'll get back.

SOTM-I voted...

I have trouble with the political ones.
Melhi - August 09, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Ahnonamis, Blo-Town and Rick. Ahnonamis: I've never liked her, either.
Leo Jay - August 09, 2004 - Report this comment
SOTM - Thanks for the explanation to my prior confusion -- I had (thankfully) completely missed that story. Nicely done.
Johnny D - August 09, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM July) Consider my previous comment enthusiastically repeated!
Agrimorfee - August 09, 2004 - Report this comment
It didn't appeal to me, either. Like if Michael Moore channeled Madonna. Not to say it's bad, it just didn't appeal to me. 544.
Melhi - August 09, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Leo Jay, Johnny D. and Agrimorfee.

Agri, unfortunately, I think I've seen what that might look like. I'm still trying to block the image a doughy American Idol reject rubbing himself and seeming to like it a little too much while singing "Like a Virgin," badly. Ew! Eww! Ewwww!
Phil Nelson - August 10, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Another boring political one.
Adagio - August 10, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) A really good job, Melhi...I just don't like pol. ones too much either.
Dee Range - August 10, 2004 - Report this comment
SOTM I dont enjoy, or understand politics
Jake A Ralphing (Luke Brattoni) - August 10, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) That's why you find yourself alone at night, pining for intellect, Dee Range. Being all the way over the other side of the big spherical rock, I only know bits and pieces of your current election, seeing Howard is tied to Bush's little finger and will inevitably be kicked out once Bush is. Anyhoo, this was well written and pretty humorous too.
Melhi - August 11, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Phil N., Adagio, Dee and Luke. Dee, you don't have to understand politics - the politics (specific or in general) are beside the point.
Phil Alexander - August 20, 2004 - Report this comment
Beautifully written, Melhi - and makes the point perfectly. And I agree that the thought of "Mooredonna " as a pop star is not one I'd like to get into my head ;-)
Melhi - August 20, 2004 - Report this comment
Wow, thanks for the great compliment, Phil. :) Oh boy... that horrible mental image, again {shudder}.
Spaff.com - August 24, 2004 - Report this comment
I'm back. Please stop sugar-coating it, Mel - tell us how you REALLY feel. By the way, I am laughing heartily at the big Google ad I'm getting for the "Conservative Book Club" - Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, et al. (It's on the Right side of the screen, of course.)
Melhi - August 25, 2004 - Report this comment
Aww... it's showing Madonna ads for me. :( How I really feel is tired, I worked like a mule all day. Thanks for the looksee, Spaffmeister! :)
Meriadoc - August 25, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Hmmm...I'm seeing ad for a "free George W. Bush button" and action figure dolls... ;-)
Melhi - August 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Merry -- I've seen the site with the dolls, before... in an alternate universe, somewhere, Alex Keaton is real and has the whole set. :) I didn't know the buttons existed. Gotta love election years and all the silly merchandise they inspire. I'm seeing Noam Chomsky ads, today. (I always get the boring ads... maybe the Google gods are trying to tell me something.)
Claude Prez - August 27, 2004 - Report this comment
Probably like it better if I got more of the references. Generally speaking, though, a good idea well executed.
Melhi - August 28, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Claude. :)
Peregrin - August 30, 2004 - Report this comment
1's for making me listen to Madonna, but 9's for the cleverness of the song, take the average! Like Claude, some of the references went over me, Merry would understand my shortcomings there!
Jeff Reuben - August 30, 2004 - Report this comment
SOTM--Excellent job, Melhi!
Melhi - August 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Pippin and Jeff! (Is that a hobbit-height joke, Pippin? :D Sorry about the Madonna song... I'm not fond of it, either.)
