what the hell is a close pin?

Old time wooden fastener to hang clothes on a line sometimes spelled closepin or Brit close peg. You could use them to close other things too. I used it because people used to pinch their noses with them around stink.

^Oops, only those latter types for multiuse were termed close pins in US. Should have used clothes pin! My bad. "Close pins" are metal and have the rubber grooved tips.
