The Lyrics

Young man, there's no need to feel down
Don't act like a clown
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be so weary

Young man, there's a place you can go
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough
You can stay there, and Im sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time

He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G.
He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G.
They kicked him out on his ass
'Cause all he brought was a glass
He didn't read his invitation

He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G.
He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G.
They kicked him out on his ass
'Cause all he brought was a glass
He didn't read his invitation

Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, where do you want to be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams
But you got to know this one thing!

No man, does it all by himself
I said, young man, take your pride off the shelf
And just go there, to the Y.M.C.A.
Im sure that they can help you today

He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G
He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G
They kicked him out on his ass
'Cause all he brought was a glass
He didn't read his invitation

He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G
He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G
They kicked him out on his ass
'Cause all he brought was a glass
He didn't read his invitation

Young man, I was once in your shoes
I said, I was down and out with the blues
I felt no man cared if I were alive
I felt the whole world was so tight....
That's when someone came up to me

And said, young man, take a walk up the street
There's a place called the Y.M.C.A
They can start you back on your way

He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G.
He didn't know the party was a B.Y.O.G.
They kicked him out on his ass
'Cause all he brought was a glass
He didn't read his invitation

B.Y.O.G.
The party was a B.Y.O.G.

Young man, young, there's no need to feel down
Young man, Don't act like a clown

B.Y.O.G.
The party was a B.Y.O.G.

Young man, young man, are you listening to me?
Young man, young man, where do you want to be

Why didn't you put this one in the 90s section? Someone suggested that on the last parody of this song.
Wozzyhonk - May 17, 2005 - Report this comment
Because it isn't a 90s song
Mr Critic. - May 17, 2005 - Report this comment
I know that! But you should have placed it in 70s then, since that's when it came out.

O.K. I feel that I should of told you all what - B.Y.O.G. stood/stands for It generally stands for Bring Your Own Grog - most Kiwi's do this anyway I know that I should of written it above/under the song Mr Critic - I value your opinion; but as the same time you are berating me, you should also look at others who have done a parody to this (most of them are of the opinion that it belongs in '80's as well
Mr Critic. - May 25, 2005 - Report this comment
Well it doesn't belong in the '80's, because like I said, it came out in a year that had 7 in the ten's column (hence, the 70s). By the way, I am NOT the decade police (even though I kinda sound like them right now) and I am NOT the punctuation police, even though I am about to tell you that you forgot the closed parenthesee on your last comment. And I am not the grammar police either, even though I am about to tell you that in your first sentence you said should OF instead of should HAVE. (The correct word is HAVE, even though we speakers tend to not emphasize certain words.) But I am not discrediting your parody, for it has good content.
