Parody Song Title:

"Fight For Your Right To Parody (Tribute To Jib Jab)"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

With Jib Jab in trouble for their use of "This Land Is Your Land", this parody could become literally true.
Jib Jab made a Flash with This Land Is Your Land
With Kerry and Bush going hand-to-hand
It was funny as hell and a great piece of work
The song owner's gonna sue 'cause he's some kind of jerk

Jib Jab will fight for their right to parody

The copyright owner up and said, "No way!"
Though Woody's son Arlo sings it every day
Man, copyright suits are a corp'rate game
And if Jib Jab goes down, t'will be a crying shame (Blast it!)

They're gotta fight for our right to parody

Don't let the guys in suits tell you what not to sing
Just kick them out of your house, and keep on parody-ing
If you want to ask, what will Jib Jab do?
Just remember the case won by Too Live Crew

You gotta fight for your right to parody

Probably the only Beastie Boys rap I have some familiarity with. Steve K., you make a good point here --- thank you for writing & posting this.

I thought this issue was pretty well desided in the courts in favor of the right to parody as early as The Erving Berlin Estate vs. Mad Magazine back in the late 50s. (And Mad's parodies are COMMERCIAL unlike ours and Jib Jab's)

This will be honest feedpack rather than anything else, you ok with that?

Maybe Im a bit picky but my tounge would roll smoother around, for example "fight for your right to triiii-bute". And although I totally agree with the message, and thought that it written fairly good as in terms of keeping within the context, there was not even a single line that made me LOL. So Ill have to settle for four-four-four.

Snake: When it comes to history, I definitely tip my hat to you. For one thing, I had never heard of Henry Clay Work until I read your parodies. Dream: I'm OK with honest feedback. As for your suggestion, I wanted the word "parody" in there because it sounds similar to "party", kind of like Robert Lund's "Parody Like It's 1999". Yes, this one is a "tribute", but parodies in general are not, but are instead intended to make fun of something, so I don't think this word would have fit with my message. But thanks anyway.
