The Lyrics

It's here, have some fear...
Too late, we saw the housing fake.
Lender snakes, over extend - Fannie Mae was not afraid.
Buyers start packing in, listen to defaults churn -
Yards start growing weeds,
Banks stuck with their deeds.
Look at your watch,
Kick in the crotch, plead, jobs go, gas blows.
Living structure splatter no hope in sight, things tight.
Liars on a wire, disputing mistakes made by our government for retired and safer life.
Big blur, never coming in a hurry with the resources to save our necks.
Scheme and scheme, new order look like chumps, weathered flop.
Look at that bank's blame! Fine them.
Oh no, savings go, bankrupt nation, chicken coop, what'll we do.
Lend oneself, help oneself.
Banks serve their own needs, listen to sounds of greed.
Had us so enraptured that the downfall left our sight - right.
It's symbolic, melancholic, damn, fright, no light, feeling very disliked.

(Chorus)
We're deep in recession and they knew it.
We're deep in recession and they blew it.
We're deep in recession and they knew it, we're out of time.

Set your clocks - Bitching hour. Didn't pay bill got no power.
Read and learn, concern, try to make yourself yearn.
Don't just be uniform and disconcerning, unforgetting.
Every effort escalates. Voices now improve our fate.
Light a candle, save the voltage. Don't clown, don't clown.
Don't get dreams crushed, crush.
Oh yeah, this seems so clear - new frontiers. Fight for aid with no fear!
They should regret, they should regret, they should regret, those lies.
Re-offer some solutions; re-offer us alternatives, a new design.

(Chorus)
We're deep in recession and they knew it.
We're deep in recession and they blew it.
We're deep in recession and they knew it, we're out of time.
(It's time we got thrown a bone)
(Repeat)

We have our rights, don't skip an instrumental plan to provide.
What will give delight? Calm, like fine wine.
Recover from the dead, stimulus, and safer banks.
Unite parties, no fakes, money back, soon!
Not alcoholic, patriotic, scams, in check, right? Fight!

(Chorus)
We're deep in recession and they knew it.
We're deep in recession and they blew it.
We're deep in recession and they knew it, we're out of time.

Had to YouTube the OS and was pleasantly surprised... Great job on this ModernMajorGeneral-esque tongue-twister with excellent rhymes and strong, consistent POV'in!

I concur, nice job on a tough song. And timely with current events too!

I recorded a parody of this, luckily I am a huge fan of TOS so I was able to pull it off, but it wasn't easy--especially since TOS kept creeping in my head while I tried to sing, now at karaoke, my parody creeps in if I try to sing the original and the original if I try to sing my parody--I can't win. Anyway, very well paced, even though I felt the end choruses could have been a little more varied, this one was great--your best to date--excellent job with the rhyming in particular, not an easy song to rhyme, I remember vividly--this TOS was the song targeted for my first SOTM Gold.

Thanks for the great comments, Dave!

Not only did you tackle the OS with aplomb, it also made more sense than any financial journal I could read explaining the subject!

Mark - Very tough OS to handle and you did a fine job. I would have done the title differently. I think I'd have named this "We can't end recession as they blow it". I gotta give you triple digit recession 5's for an extremely tough tackle and great execution.

(ABC5) Welp, dunno what to say here, I know nothing about the recession that apparently happened. Curse my refusal to give a crap about current events! Kudos for tackling such an OS, that's worth a 555 by itself, but I just can't comment on the subject matter.

I wish you varied the choruses this must be an old work from you Mark. Not a bad song (can't believe I never commented on this one before... That's weird because I know I read it).
Mark Scotti - October 18, 2012 - Report this comment
Right you are, Matthias, it was an eary work and i've learned since then...THANKS

REM Artistry: Hard OS to parody Mark and I think you did a great job matching the internal rhyme where you could. Also a dire message, but you made it amusing nonetheless!

"it's NOT the end"..of my THANKS to you, Peregrin!
Meriadoc - October 26, 2012 - Report this comment
(Artistry) I especially like the yards growing weeds (sure see that in my town). Three years later, and still timely, unfortunately... Wish you could have done a bit more with the four ending choruses, though.

Some stunning lines in this one. I remember back in 1999 when Glass-Steagall was repealed and the bankers were saying "it's not needed, we can police ourselves". Yeah, that worked. Rex's law: "don't let the people who manage the money have too much control over the money". Excellent analysis here.
Mark Scotti - October 28, 2012 - Report this comment
Thanks to Meriadoc (it was an early work, I absolutelt would have varied them today), and to Rex(scary as it is...it still reflects today!)

(Artistry) Wait, I read this one before? Well, my opinion on it is pretty much the same: successfully parodying such a difficult song is worth the 5's, but I couldn't really get into the topic as, last I checked anyway, Australia wasn't really affected by the big recession dealio.
