Song Parodies -> "Shame!"

Original Song Title:

"Fame!"

Original Performer:

Irene Cara

Parody Song Title:

"Shame!"

Parody Written by:

Arwen

The Lyrics

This guy said to me
"Hey, you look really sweet
Brazen girls I don't really get
In a girl, I think that reserved is best"

Said he'd wait for me
Excused myself to pee
Checked my teeth and I washed my hands
How forgetful I am
I'm livin' with shame

Shame!
That I'll live with forever
I didn't zip up my fly--why?
Undies of black patent leather
Didn't impress my new guy
Shame!
Right about quarter past seven
He had forgotten my name
Shame!
"I'll call a week from never!"
Oh, how I'm livin' with shame

(Remember) (Remember)
(Remember) (Remember)
(Remember) (Remember)
(Remember) (Remember)

Saw him the next night
Wanted to make it right
Hated that our date was a flop
Tried to show this guy all I've got to give

Pouted just enough
Though his defense was tough
As we walked and talked by the lake
Oooh, I stepped on a rake

Shame!
That I'll live with forever
Broken nose and a black eye--*cry!*
We're not meant to be together
Be with me? He'd rather die
Shame!
Maybe I'll see him in heaven
My angel self won't be lame
Shame!
In this life we'll date never
And I'm stuck livin' with shame

(Remember) (Remember)
(Remember) (Remember)
(Remember) (Remember)
(Remember) (Remember)

[Instrumental Interlude]

Shame!
I'm always home by eleven
He don't want a clumsy dame
Shame!
Egg on my face forever
Oh yeah, I'm livin' with shame

(Remember) (Remember)
(Remember) (Remember)
(Remember) (Remember)
(Remember) (Remember)

(repeat chorus and fade to end)

Impressive! Great job rhyming with the OT. Very funny, you goofy bastard.
Newfoghill - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Pain is the well-spring of humor and you have drunk deep. One of the few female slapstick artists since Roman times was Carol Burnett, who gave all and kept nothing back. Few women have the confidence to show life giving them a whack just like it gives the guys, and life lets the ladies step on rakes just as much as it lets the men, although few women will admit it. Equality is only admitting women are as much jerks as men are, women are just prettier. Thanks for letting the lady see stars. She's all the more a lady for it.

i was impressed with the song...and i'd certainly be impressed with black leather panties too...pout on !....5s
Arwen - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Leo...thanks, buddy!!

Newfoghill...I have to tell you...that is the best compliment you could have ever given! Carol Burnett is my HERO...and to be even somewhat relatable to her...is FABulously flattering. Thank you!

Alvin...LOL! Thanks!
Jeff Reuben - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
I'm just trying to figure out why leaving your fly down, or stepping on a rake, is a bad thing. Both are turn-ons for me =)
Arwen - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Hee! Thanks, Jeff!

And thanks for stopping in, one giver!
2nz - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Very funny, very honest, very good. But I think Newfoghill says all that better than I can currently.
Tim Mayfield - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Reminds me of the old joke when the awkward gal asked why her beau stuck around her, he responded "beclutz I love you".
Very funny stuff Arwen!
Arwen - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
But you're the only one who can master the being of my favorite 2nz, mister! =) Thanks!
Arwen - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Ooops...looks like we had an overlap...I promise I wasn't ignoring you, Tim! Thanks!

And for Arwen's next trick, a parody of that Sweet song: "Ballroom Klutz!"
Serafina - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Good evening, Arwen... normally I don't post comments at this time, but I've been so busy at work lately that I haven't had time to surf the net. Anyway, it's nice to see another great parody from you; I always love reading them. By the way, I'm on my home computer right now, and often times when I vote it hasn't been registering, and I'm not sure why. Whether my vote goes through or not, it will be 5-5-5. :)
Double E - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Very well done, methinks. I know with my luck I'd end up rake-stepping (lol).
Arwen - February 23, 2005 - Report this comment
Michael...yeah, I'm still waiting for my "Don't Worry Baby" parody...so...maybe we can work out a trade...=)

Serafina...thanks, as always, for your very kind comment...which means more than a vote any day! =)

Double E...=) Thanks a bunch!

Ash - February 25, 2005 - Report this comment
Very well done, Arwen... it seems however, that someone's been sabotaging people's votes. There's been a one in a couple parodies I've read lately. Any way of knowing who it is??
Arwen - February 25, 2005 - Report this comment
Ash...thanks for your concern...the ones, in my opinion, come from more than one person...and are actually quite common. I have at least a set on most of my parodies...and consider it the mark of true greatness that I've inspired such jealousy from a coward...; ) Thanks!!

As much as I love the original, I love this one about a hundred times more. It is HILARIOUS!!!

What can I say that has not already been said? One cannot deny that you are a comical goddess. I humbly worship at your feet! No! Really! I have loved just about everything you've done, and this song is certainly no exception. You really do deserve all of the praise that has been showered upon you. I hope to see many more songs coming from "The Lady of Comedy Song Parodies." That's a bit of a long title, but that's the best I can think of at the moment. I give you a shameless 555! ^-^

(SOTM) DKTOS, but I trust you with these 5s. It's hilarious. I'll get ahold of the OS before I vote for SOTM.
Jake A Ralphing (Luke Brattoni) - March 10, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I'm shocked your pouting proved futile in winning him over. Black patent leather? So that's what Elves wear under their skirts! Funny funny stuff, Arwen.

(sotm) Hope your HMO covers shame. :-)
Peter Andersson a.k.a K1chyd - March 12, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Arwen, let me tell you, as helpfull and working that "stomp and pout" technique may be for a woman at the times she use it, it's still the equivalent of, so to speak with a sports metaphor, getting on the field on old merits and at the same time lowering the price on her position on the trading list...
Spaff.com - March 13, 2005 - Report this comment
All I could recall of the original was the chorus, so I looked up the original lyrics. Yikes. Yours kick those down the street and into the lake. And Kim West pretty much said what I was going to say, except that I've never really been much of a foot guy, so instead I'll worship your black leather undies.
Johnny D - March 13, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) You could never pout "just enough" for me. ;-)
John Jenkins - March 20, 2005 - Report this comment
Excellent job of rhyming to the original, varying the chorus, and developing a funny story.

(SOTM) I'm going to be up all night trying to reconcile "undies of black patent leather" with "my angel self". :-) Great job.

"My angel self won't be lame" - LOL!! (you think of everything) - this is uniquely Arwen - 555
Claude Prez - March 28, 2005 - Report this comment
I could only remember the chorus too. Ironically, Spaff's comment SHAMEd me into looking up the original lyrics as well and I have to agree; yours are way better, though I also share the befuddlement of those who wonder what kind of guy wouldn't be thrilled with the black leather undie flash, especially from a pouty elf. Very good.

(LUV) what Serafina said...(it being 11.58pm here in Oz, too)

this was great, but just a quiet tip: as a single guy I always deliberately planted rakes by the lake - just to see if I could tick off the "not-a-klutz" box on the checklist I maintained regarding my newly-enamoured......(it's an easy thing to overcome, now you have this inside info)
Johnny D - February 27, 2006 - Report this comment

(luvcomp) this parody is like marijuana. It's $H!+, but it's great $H!+ I loved it.
A. Person - February 28, 2006 - Report this comment
I like it very much; there's just no reason why any basterd should vote one's on it. My vote is 5,5,5.

to Stu: She made her comment a year ago...at 11:28 PM Eastern time. Depending on where she lives, it could have been any time during the day. The time displayed on the comments indicates what time it was on the East Coast at the very instant the comment was posted. For me, it's almost 9 P.M. where I'm at right now (Mountain time), so it's probably gonna say something like 10:50-something:something PM. Big deal.

Enough about that already. Like I said, I give this a perfect score.

Agri...thanks so much...as always!

bobpiecheese...I'm still working on that nickname...but thanks. You should learn the OS...um...just because I said so.

Matthias...and I'm still waiting for you to pick me up for the dance, mister!

Rick...thanks a million! I'm glad the contest made you aware of this one...it's a sentimental favorite...=)

Stuart...thanks a lot for the information...now that I have it, I'm certain I'll never get invited to the lake again. Dammit.

Johnny...hehehe...thanks!

S.T.G....I can honestly say that's the first time my work has been publically compared to marijuana. I'm often told that my work makes peoples' eyes glaze over, and often times gives them the munchies...but this is so much better. Thanks!

A. Person...Hey, thanks. I'm with you on the "Down with Ones" sentiment...and I'm glad you liked this...but as for your rant aimed at Stuart, it made me want to cry. Mostly because I just didn't get it. But also, because all rants aimed at Stuart are supposed to be cleared through me before posting. I'm pretty sure it's in the by-laws. Or something.

Stu...Yeah...I'm with you.

(LUVCOMP) Still a riotous gem, Arwen.
Stuart McArthur - March 01, 2006 - Report this comment
yes, actually "cleared through AND then used by..." because I don't pay attention to rants from anyone other than Arwen, no matter what time it is, Mountain or otherwise
...although rants done at Picturesque Isthmus time occasionally get under my skin

Me - March 01, 2006 - Report this comment
I think "A. Person" was making a chain of references. He told Stu about a reference which Stu made regarding commentator who made a comment on February 23rd of last year. See, Stu had made a reference to a 2/23/05 comment, and "A. Person" was making a reference to Stu's comment.

Don't know how else to splain it. :-\\\\
Arwen - March 02, 2006 - Report this comment
Luke...thanks a bunch, sir. =)

Stuart...glad I've got you all trained up. Good to know. Rants by anyone other than myself are generally pointless and garbled anyway. Mine, on the other hand, are usually only pointless. I at least make sense. Usually.

Larry...thank you!

Me...or, should I say, You? Anyway...um...yeah, I got that much. Thanks.
