The Lyrics

You're sneezing away,
But you say you're just under the weather.
In the cube next to me, I wish you'd go away,
Don't come back until you get better.

And there's no way,
I can escape cause we're all couped inside,
It won't be long before I come down,
From your germs there's no way I can hide.

And I guess that's why we all get the flu,
Washing my hands, from all that snot that you blew
Stuck in this building, working with others
Coughing like thunder, and don't even cover,
And I guess that's why we all get the flu.

Wiping your face
Then touching my space with your hands
Go home this second, don't share your infection
With every poor soul that you can.

Get some NyQuil,
Try some chicken soup if it helps
Please take a sick day, maybe take two,
Before I get sick myself.

And I guess that's why we all get the flu,
Won't take time off, then they give it to you.
Why they persist on, sometimes I wonder,
Spread it to others, then we all go under,
And I guess that's why we all get the flu.

This song resembles us. Don't tell us you're sick now? See Paul's parody today.

Two coworkers whose cubicles (yes, I work in a software engineering "cube farm") are close to mine kept coming in to the office over the past couple of weeks hacking and gacking and blowing their noses etc etc etc GROSS. I really wish people would stay home at least until they stop spraying virus-laden mucus all around their immediate vicinity! Great parody, Leah - 555 for you.

P.S. Both my wife and I had flu shots weeks ago - neither of us has had the flu - is there an "Emoticon" for keeping-ones-fingers-crossed? If not, imagine one here: :)

Thank you Rick, Johnny, and Guy! No, I'm not sick (yet), just sick of people coming to work sick! ;-)

Rick, if you're up for it, I might try doing this one and "Our Song" on Thursday... as long as I'm not hacking by then!

This is SO RIGHT ON!!! Our office manager had to ask a few people to go home last week to avoid infecting others. Half the office is out sick or taking care of sick kids today. I emailed this around to a few people in the office. Hopefully they'll post their comments.

Leah, Right on! I DO stay home when I get sick. But many don't. I remember last year I was training a new rep and we were in the stage where they finally start taking calls with a listener there (me) to help. Now just by itself having to do this should probably be outlawed by the Geneva Convention, especially for me. You sit there and try to let them handle it and hear them start to screw up and you have to decide when and if to intervene. On top of that the poor guy was snivelling, hacking, sneezing, his nose drippings, GAWD, you name it, he was oozing it out somewhere I'm sure. So I go, "Gee,. Jeff, you seem pretty sick today, did you consider staying home to get some rest?" He goes, "Oh, I always just keep working when I get sick, it's too boring to be at home." Well, I know I certainly wouldn't want poor JEFF TO BE BORED. Much better for ME to get sick and get to waste 4 days of PTO sitting at home being, yes, you guessed it, BORED. So I guess you could say you struck a chord (or a nerve) with this one. Nice work!

Thanks Paul.... I think we all know a few people like that. I particularly hate the people who say, "Oh no, I don't have time to be sick, I have too much to do," Like the world's gonna END if they took a day off. And that their presence is SO much more important than the health and wellbeing of others. Those people are... well... sick. Chris? Is that YOU? ;-)
