The Lyrics

west aussie year 12 students know all about it at rottnest island after TEE exams, this is simply my version of it
i used to think this island was a real s***hole
meant for families but not for me
they were out to get me
thats the way it seemed
pigs were always bustin up pinkies

but now i'm off my face
coz im a school leaver
not a trace
of sense in my mind
i think im pi**ed
OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH
im a school leaver
and when i leave i think i'll cry

all my favourites only come in glass bottles
so the bottle ban cut me down real deep
there's no crown or coldies
only TED's and VB
so i ditched it and went to smoke some weed

and now im off my face
coz im a school leaver
not a trace
of sense in my mind
now im stoned
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHH
im a school leaver
and when i leave i think ill cry

Did Neil Diamond record a version of this song? I know he wrote it, and the Monkees performed it, but did Diamond himself do so as well?

Very good! 555. I speak "American" and I know only a little "Australian" .... I think a "coldie" is a cold can or bottle of beer .... but what's a "crown" ? What are "pinkies" (not little fingers, are they?) ? What's "TED" ? What's "VB" ?

Johnny D- Coldies can mean a cold beer, here it means a specific brand (Carlton Cold), Crown is the best beer in the world (based on my experience of only ever drinking Aussie beer). VB is the worst beer in the world (slight exaggeration, but it tastes crap). I'm guessing TED is Toohey's Extra Dry.

confirming for the yanks, pinkies-the beach at rottnest where everyone used to go to get pissed until the cops(pigs) found out and shut it down. coldie-carlton cold-a type of bear that is pretty good but only comes in a glass bottle. crown another beer thats a bit better but still only comes in glass bottles. VB-victoria bitter-another beer thats tastes shit but was pretty much the only thing they sold and came in cans. TED's-tooheys extra dry-another beer that is the same as VB hope that clarifies everything for you. leavers or "schoolies" is the equivlant of america's spring break alot of drinking, screwing and smoking

The song was written by Neil Diamond, so chances are he performed it first. :P
