Well constructed parody. How can you control disgruntled loners with bizarre fantasies, without turning this country into a worse surveillance state than it has already become? Interesting use of a peaceful song to touch on a violent subject.

Patrick, the 2nd Amendment (of which I misssspelled, grrrrrrr) is so broad that one could interpret it as a right to own a bazooka or C4. I think there are two big questions which no one wants to respond to rationally- Where is the line between arms that are meant to protect and arms that are meant for assault. (technically, they're all meant for assault except for certain sport models)? and Which is more valued, lives or firearms?
Having assault weapons legally for sale when the name explicitly tells you what that weapon is made for, that's madness.

I appreciate your painting the shades of gray in what is seen as a black and white issue. Something that has stuck with me is a scene from the Harrison Ford movie "Witness". An Amish grandfather, upon finding his grandsons discovery and curiosity of John Books gun, tells the boy (paraphrasing): "This is an instrument...for the taking...of human life. That is only for God to decide". I own a gun, but that still sticks with me.

Over the years I've been all over the map opinion-wise on gun-control issues. My latest thought was 'just ban assault rifles to the public.' But then a thought come into my head that gives me pause - if we were to do that, who would then still be allowed to have them? The police and the military. Can anyone picture a time in the future in this country when the police and the military were no longer the 'friends' of the citizens? It's happened elsewhere. Could it happen here? Maybe. I often wonder if that is what our founders were thinking of when they spoke about 'a well-armed militia' among our citizenry...

The Articles of Confederation speaks of the militia having personal arms while the states would provide "tents and field pieces", the logistical support and heavy weapons. But there was no law to prevent a wealthy individual from furnishing arms, including cannon to his local regiment. As late as the Spanish-American war, a rich New Yorker sent two Colt machine guns to his son who was serving in Teddy Roosevelt's "Rough Riders". When German submarines threatened American shipping during WWI, the government told commercial ship owners to purchase artillery on the open market to protect their vessels. It was only the 1968 Gun Control Act, based on the Nazi weapons law of 30 years earlier that made a distinction between "military" and "sporting" arms for civilian possession. A 98k Mauser rifle was built for combat. Put a fancy stock on it, and it's now a "hunting" or "target" rifle. The mechanics of the bolt, the cartridge, and the impact on the target are identical.
