The Lyrics

Keep a hanky nearby for this one.
Bloated ears--Dumbo--ha ha ha
Bloated ears--Dumbo--ha ha ha
Bloated ears--Dumbo--ha ha ha

Mrs. Dumbo's circus life's
Taking her everywhere
Angel
(Now she got a baby)

Stork in the sky drops her one
He's well-formed and his ears are long
(What a funny baby)

This elephant will lose it all
You'll be sobbing
Bless his little soul
(Hide them ears--Dumbo--ha ha ha)
(Poor little pachy!)

One night they locked Mom
Behind closed doors
'Twas the saddest thing
("Baby mine...")
(Give me back my baby)
What bad luck, and then in time
Dressed as a clown, takes falls
Sad time
(Poor little pachy!)

He has to put up with a thousand jeers
Nothing seems to go right with his bloated ears--Dumbo!
(Bloated ears--Dumbo--sob sob sob)
(Poor little pachy!)

Next there was a day when he got real drunk
When he got into a miserable funk
Pink Elephant dream, they
Sang an eerie song
Then, what a feat, might break your heart
Flew up a tree! He got a new start
Wished upon, wished upon a feather, magic feather, oh lord
He believed them that day!
It's a flying pachy!
(Thanks to the black crows, soars with the black crows)
Fly with the black crows with your golden ears

Now he's really flying tall
Now he's happy
Bless his little soul!
(Golden ears--Dumbo--bop bop bop!)
(He's a flying pachy!)

Now we know that his life
Is now happy and fair
("Baby mine...")

It's a flying pachy!
Thanks to the black crows, soars with the black crows
Fly with the black crows with your golden ears.

Now Dumbo, you need not cry a thousand tears
No one will degrade you for your golden ears, Dumbo!

(Golden ears--Dumbo--la la la!)
(Golden ears--Dumbo--la la la!)

WOW! THIS IS FREAKIN' INCREDIBLE! Agrimorfee, "Golden Years" must be one of the weirdest and toughest songs to parody, but man oh man did you ever NAIL it here! 5-5-5 !!!
Rick D - August 05, 2004 - Report this comment
This is great Agri. You mange to find the hardest songs and do som ething with them. I'm still working on "Karn Evil 9"
Paul Robinson - August 06, 2004 - Report this comment
WHAAAAATTT??? Only 3 votes (including the one I just posted)!!!???You folks out there don't know David Bowie's "Golden Years" ? If this were my parody I'd be "WAH-WAH-WAH-ING" all over the place. I second and third JD & Rick D on their remarks about how tough this song would be to parody. You did a fantastic job. 5's
Agrimorfee - August 06, 2004 - Report this comment
Slow day, Paul...I am not discouraged, but thanks for the props (and the same to Johnny & Rick). There's something about Bowie that just clicks for me--when I get inspired by him, I hit it out of the ballpark, it seems.
Ashkicksass - August 06, 2004 - Report this comment
I can't believe I missed this one! It's fabulous, and my favorite Bowie song. Bravo!

I gotta tell you though, I can't watch Dumbo. I cry hysterically during the "mom is locked up and singing "Baby Mine" to Dumbo" scene. And when everyone makes fun of him it just kills me.

(SOTM) In the words of friends from an all-girls' school- KEE-YOTE! (cute) I DKTOS so compared lyrics to the ones provided, there's some fine skill in this one, Aggy!

Now, I wanna do a parody based on a Disney movie! But I can't figure out which one hasn't already been done (Gippeto has been overparodied, Dumbo's been done, Supercali-whatever has been driving me insane). I'm thinking I could go with Snow White or Toy Story or something. I loved this parody (highly anticipated) and I award you all the fives I've got!

Christ Bodily TM: Arent there a number in "Fantasia" that has lyrics? The one with Mickey as a Wizzards trainee?

(SOTM) That was my SOTM comment. I have big ears myself so I can relate, but can you believe I have never seen Dumbo? Must get around to that some day. Is that (Dumbo) where the lore about being drunk and seeing pink elephants come from?
Agrimorfee - September 13, 2004 - Report this comment
Know 1--the only lyrics in "Fantasia" are for the Ave Maria segment at the end (Schubert, I believe).

Ill take your word for it. My memory propably serves me wrong. Ive only seen "Fantasia" once and that was many years ago.

Nice job, Aggro. I like how the bloated ears become golden ears. And since you (and Sister Kicksass) referenced "Baby Mine," do yourselves a favor and track down Bonnie Raitt's cover of that (on a CD called "Stay Awake: Various Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films," which also includes Tom Waits doing "Heigh Ho" and Los Lobos doing "I Wanna Be Like You"). Great stuff.
Phil Alexander - September 20, 2004 - Report this comment
Agrimorfee - did you have to remind me of this film? My kiddies have long since grown out of Dumbo, and that's the way (uh huh, uh huh) I like it... But seriously, I liked the parody, even though I hate the film (with the possible exception of the Crows' song)
martha - September 20, 2004 - Report this comment
well Phil I must say that I still have very fond memories of that one! such a tear jerker!! thank you Agri for reminding me of it ... a great job also .. 5s really find this voting business so hard .. so many great lyrics!

Spaff, that Stay Awake collection is one of my Top 10 Favorite Albums of all time. What a sweet interpretation Bonnie does, too. The Tom Waits "Heigh Ho" is a particular favorite.

Clever stuff. I used to have that Stay Awake collection too; I remember Sinead did "Some Day My Prince Will Come" but the Los Lobos one was my fave. Anyway, well done here.

Yeah, I must say, very clever. I too like how you transfered from 'bloated' to 'golden', along with the sub "little pachy".

It's been a very long time since I saw Dumbo and I can't recall the tune, nor was I able to locate a MP3, which given Johnny D's, Rick's and Paul's comments seems to be a great loss on my end.

(ABC) Good parody Agi, among the best I've read by you ever to be honest . . .Dumbo Ears, nice take on a tough OS. I know this isn't that long of a comment, but considering the amount ahead of me, I would be hard pressed to compete with all those comments.

(ABC3S) Fantastic Ag! This would be in my top 3 faves of yours - the idea of telling the Dumbo story to a song was clever enough, but using Golden Years (and so many of your lines matched the OS so well) must have been a tough task - seems like a hard OS to do - big555

Agrimorfee - March 14, 2007 - Report this comment
Everything just fell into place when I decided to do this, for some reason, (even "wish upon-wish upon a feather") and it wasn't really hard at all. I think one of the great things about this parody against the OS is how the "Ayn-gelllll" vocal part is very similar in melody to "Bab-ee miiine...".
Jeff Reuben - March 14, 2007 - Report this comment

(Artistry) I have no idea what I was talking about with turning the song off. Maybe it was a bad cover, maybe I was just too stupid to appreciate the awesomeness of David Bowie, who knows. That said, excellent summation of a classic Disney film. 555!
Rex - December 31, 2012 - Report this comment
Everything's going to be fine, Agri...just calm down and tell these nice men in the white coats about the flying elephant. Excellent work here, and your previous comment reinforces something I've experienced as well -- it doesn't matter how difficult the OS is if you get the right inspiration, it just falls in place.
Syncronos - January 02, 2013 - Report this comment
