DKTOS? - Click HERE to hear the OS of "Tapestry" by Carol King.

"Real life" hangs on in "Rhapsody" that's 'bout to meet its due,
An ego-smashing lesson 'bout a boy who’s 'bout to stew.
Parts thunderous and tragic, it's bitter blue and cold,
This "Rhapsody's" surreal you see, quite plausible how told.

What he did was "off" in pure madness some poor guy,
He's met with such misfortune; He sniffles, woes and cries.
He's worn and torn this matter, froth abounds way deep inside,
He dotes now for his mother; Fellow seems already died.

Court proved that he most certainly put gun to head of foe,
When he pulled the trigger, "He's dead, Jim", this is so.
Once impeached, he won't grow old, be hanging from a tree.
Oh, if just gun were empty...

Tuned within the "Rhapsody" unfolds a well known ode,
Queen does so deliver rock as it burns on then explodes.
Now seems that hell is callin' as Beelzebub does yell,
Mama wept and son did suffer, as he bid them all farewell.

By this time tomorrow, comes penalty severe,
Sings Figaro so ghostly; Bequeaths all holdings dear.
This time's his deepest darkness, God bless him 'fore he's whacked,
So this "Rhapsody's" 'bout grappling as death stands at his back.

As death stands at his back...

Sir Guy, Lord o'Poetic Parody~ I love the ghost of Tom Dooley, passing through this poetic parody ! Very nice write, Sir.

Jason - It was really fun to write, but I have the feeling that a lot of folks are unfamiliar with Carole King stuff. These series of CK parodies I am doing are from the Tapestry album circa 1971. I have at least two CK parodies now that have never been done on amiright. Nevertheless I will most likely continue on as I'd like to do all 12 songs on the album eventually. Thanks!

Alvin - You have a way with words - HA! "Collision". LOL!

Farce - Thanks for the boost. Glad you enjoyed it.

M'lady - I am pleased that this pleases you. Thanks for your kind comment.

Good job Guy! Great switcheroo melding!

Thanks, Pip. I've been told that these kinds of parodies are some of the most difficult to pull off. This one actually was quite easy and fun. Maybe it was just difficult for the person that said it was. Do you think if McCoy examined the body after the execution, he would say to Kirk, "He's dead, Jim"? I'd bet the mortgage money on it.

(SOTM) Sad to say I was completely lost as to the subject matter until the third verse. Happy to say that the second read proved to be profoundly enjoyable! I 've never heard the OS before and reading along with it, I found myself consistently amused by your syllable-for-syllable rhymes and flawless pacing... mamma mia, this was good.

Emi - The parody did what I intended it to do and that was to purely entertain and without a bit of explanation I let the lyrics speak for themselves. It is a refreshing break from the garden variety of BR parody, at least I think so. And I'm so glad you were entertained so well by it. And thanks for your very upbeat comment. You made my day. =;-)

Great syllable matching, didn't understand one single sentence though...

Agri - Thanks - your comment is most befitting.

Peter - You seem to be the only one so fair who hasn't gotten it. It's just a new twist on an overdone parody on amiright. (which I am one who does over do this one). It is Carole King doing her version of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm surprised that you did not pick up on it. Your English is better than a lot of the first language speakers and writers with whom I deal with daily. Please re-read it again with this in mind and listen to the OS link I've provided if you have not already. I'm sorry if I caused you any confusion.

I was a bit confused about what this song was about until you explained it to Peter, but this was an intresting take on that Queen song. I like it, now that I know what it's about...

Maybe it was done too clever Guy... yeah, that must be it, I've only tried that switcheroo subgenre once myself, with the far simpler "Lizzy Borden took an axe" over "Old McDonald had a farm", nowhere near that complex. :-)
Agrimorfee - September 16, 2008 - Report this comment
(SOTM) You woven a wonderful Bohemian tapestry here. If you have a chance to record this, you should try to incorporate the piano melody of BohoRhap onto the melody here...it's very close, and would add to it. Questionable grammar usage here and there.

Matt - Thanks for the second glance at this.

Peter - I'm rarely accused of being clever, but I could get used to being called that. Thanks!

Agri - I'd love to have this and some of my other stuff recorded, but I am purely a writer. I can tickle the ivories a bit on piano, all self taught but very crude and I have not a singing voice. If you can hook me up with someone who wants to give it a shot, I'd definately go for it. I've only heard half of one of my parodies sung and that was back around 2003 or 4 when Rick Duncan and his wife Mari did parts of about 10 parodies on amiright and they selected one of mine. It was a pure treat to hear my work. Mari has a decent singing voice and Rick plays well. I was most appreciative of those two doing that and the best part was that it was a complete surprise to everyone. They just did it and posted a site to listen to all that they did. It was a purely decent thing they did.

(SOTM) First I was all "Que?" then I read your answer to Peter and I went all "Ooooh...cool". This is a nicely written parody, Guy. Very surreal.

Thanks, COP. I really enjoyed writing this one. It's off the beaten path and provides the unexpected. Glad you enjoyed it. Not everyone knows King's "Tapestry" but who doesn't know Boh-Rap?

(SOTM) It thought this was a nice recap of the song "Bohemian Rhapsody", in a way it's kinda cool how you made a lot of the original lines work for your parody-on the other hand, it took away from the potential of it for me too. I won't be a stickler on grammar, I know you don't worry about that because you don't record, but there were some sacrifices made for pacing that caught my eye.

I did enjoy this as well. Interesting take, I've seen tributes to movies and TVs, but not a song tribute to a different song like this. Original.

Very clever, Guy - not exactly funny, but had to vote 5 out of respect for a fantastically-done "one song to the tune of another" (-ish)
