The Lyrics

I stayed up late to watch the Hall of Fame show
To see when ABBA got inducted to the Rock and Roll
I had to stare, there was only two
I really swear, that the group really totaled four
I was looking around for two more
But they didn't show and that brought up a fact
Which members of the group I was looking at, o-o-o-oh

Was it AB or BA, I'm confused again
There name always upset me
Was it AB or BA, this will never end
They could switch and no one would ever see
Their letters always confused me
Two same vowels and two letter B's
Which one was first and which was last
Was it AB or BA, who really gives a crap
There in the Rock and Roll Hall at last

We've been angry cause they been excluded so long
Since they were only known for their Top 40 songs
Nobody cared about the songs they made
They only glared at the Swedish babes
Confusion always followed them
And we thought their last names were Sven
Even now they give a perplexing sight
Which ones are we looking at tonight,o-o-o-oh

Was it AB or BA, I'm confused again
There name always upset me
Was it AB or BA, this will never end
They could switch and no one would ever see
Their letters always confused me
Two same vowels and two letter B's
Which one was first and which was last
Was it AB or BA, who really gives a crap
There in the Rock and Roll Hall at last
Was it AB or BA, it will make you sick
Just say Thank You For The Music

Was it AB or BA, I'm confused again
There name always upset me
Was it AB or BA, this will never end
They could switch and no one would ever see
Their letters always confused me
Two same vowels and two letter B's
Which one was first and which was last
Was it AB or BA, who really gives a crap
There in the Rock and Roll Hall at last

Mama Mia! What a parody! ;D

Well, first of all, the pacing is very poor. You couldn't even get the chorus close to 4 syllables! But really, what is so funny about this song? Maybe it's giving the perspective of someone that doesn't have much respect for ABBA and just wants to hear their highlights, but still, that isn't really funny at all. It's not like the premise could be funny, but if this song was recorded, I'd be pretty bored by the third line. Overall, this parody wasn't worth the trouble. Tsk!

Mostly, there was too much repetition of the same lines and choruses, which get boring to the reader, even if TOS repeats. (Note our ABBAs this week, starting yesterday, where repetition in TOS was subbed differently each time.)

Nobody cared about the songs they made
They only glared at the Swedish babes

Respectfully disagree. Women enjoyed their music too, and while there was a bit of a "pin-up girl" flap on the blond, I liked their music before I ever saw any pics of them -- and afterward, too. I'm sure many men felt the same -- you can't see them over the radio, you know ;)

Trivia: Their logo had the first B backwards, due to a typesetting error, but they liked the looks of it and kept it.

This seems less like a tribute than a dis, with the "who gives a crap" line. (Where did "Sven" come from?) Haven't gotten to doing this one in our series this week yet, and so DK pacing and won't check it, just give a 5, with 2 on content. 3 overall.

btw, the nick was a pun on "Palindrome" -- something that reads the same both forward and backward, like, say, "ABBA". - Tommy Turtle

Funny. And Peter Gabriel wasn't with Genesis either, I read he was preparing to tour. But he hasn't been with the band for ages anyway. Cool write

Needed more work and variation but nice concept allowing for limitations Pallid mentioned.
