The Lyrics

I dedicate this parody to the Northern Illinois University women's basketball program, because the players and coaches were steadfast friends to me through some very difficult times, and watching them play hard and often get a hard-fought win truly was an inspiration. I especially dedicate this to Huskie alumna E.C.Hill who played for the Charlotte Sting in 2000, the (WNBL) Chicago Blaze this year, and is now coaching women's basketball at a Chicago-area college. You go, girl!!!
WNBA
2003 Michael W. McVey

Hey girl, yes you with the ball
I said, hey girl, have you got the gall
I said, hey girl, you should play for our team
You're too good to be trapped in the 'hood

Hey girl, there's a place you can play.
I said, hey girl, gender won't stand in your way
You can play here, and I'm sure you will find
It's more than worth your effort and time.

It's fun to play in the WNBA
It's fun to play in the WNBA

It is a game you will really enjoy,
This sport's no longer just for the boys ...

It's fun to play in the WNBA
It's fun to play in the WNBA

You can play with the pros, make the fans cheer real loud,
You can make your alma mater proud ...

Hey girl, are you listening to me?
I said, hey girl, what do you wanna be?
I said, hey girl, you can make real your dreams.
But you got to know this one thing!

No one does it all by themselves.
I said, hey girl, put your fears on the shelf,
And just go there, to the WNBA
And tell them you wanna sign up today.

It's fun to play in the WNBA
It's fun to play in the WNBA

It is a game you will really enjoy,
This sport's no longer just for the boys ...

It's fun to play in the WNBA
It's fun to play in the WNBA

You can play with the pros, make the fans cheer real loud,
You can make your alma mater proud ...

Hey girl, I was once in your shoes.
I said, I was down and out with the blues.
I felt no one cared if I was alive.
Now my song spoofs make the Top 25!

That's 'cause I started listnen' to me,
And said, hey man, what do you wanna be?
I said, hey girl, the same's true for you
There's nothing good that you cannot do.

It's fun to play in the WNBA
It's fun to play in the WNBA

It is a game you will really enjoy,
This sport's no longer just for the boys ...

WNBA, it's fun to play in the WNBA

Hey girl, hey girl, are you listnen to me?.
Hey girl, hey girl, what do you wanna be?.

WNBA, it's fun to play in the WNBA

Hey girl, hey girl, are you listnen to me?.
Hey girl, hey girl, what do you wanna be?.

WNBA, it's fun to play in the WNBA

Hey girl, hey girl, are you listnen to me?.
Hey girl, hey girl, what do you wanna be?.

WNBA, it's fun to play in the WNBA

No one does it all by themselves
You've just gotta put your fears on the shelf

WNBA, it's fun to play in the WNBA

Hey girl, I was once in your shoes...

Two things: 1, The pacing was kinda off in the chorus, how would you sing "W" on one note? 2, It came out in the 70s not 60s , but that doesn't really matter

Double drivel. Word to the wise, people: Four letters in a word or organization does not necessarily translate into a viable "YMCA" parody! Just because it worked with M-E-T-S, Y-O-D-A, I-H-O-P and especially S-P-C-A, doesn't mean it'll word with every four-letter W-O-R-D. Now, if you were to take Harry Chapin's "W-O-L-D" and turn it into "W-N-B-A," you'd probably have, pardon the pun, a better shot.
