Original Song Title:

Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Sing Like a Man"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Sing like a man
I got around with that falsetto sound
Making hit records with my voice
Grow up, Laddie - you can't be a castratti
It's time you made another choice.

Sing like a man! Sing like a man!
You sound like a girl, Frankie!
Don't be a geek - sounding like a freak
Sing like a man, Frankie.

My cacophony made a lot of money
Got me on the radio
But I didn't sound cool like those guys from Liverpool
My style was not the way to go.

(So I) Sang like a man - I ditched the band
Outgrew bubblegum doo wop
I sang alone with a deeper tone
And now Tiny Tim's on top.

Kind of reminds me of an old parody I heard long ago of the BeeGee's song "Tragedy":

Tragedy
When you sing so high
And you're a guy
It's tragedy.

Funny what you remember...

Glad to know that I am not the only person that had this thought every time I heard the OS...

Frankie was ahead of his time. Ten years later everybody was singing in falsetto!

Thanks, Warren - I forgot the Bee Gees. I was thinking of the mid Sixties when the Beatles replaced Bubblegum because they sounded like grown men. But then there was the Ohio Express. Thanks, Mariadoc - a certain newspaper columnist inspired that. Thanks Porfle - not so much as the early Sixties. The Beatles were badly needed.

My brother used to sing 'Walk like a man, talk like a frog' to the tune of this!

You have expressed in verse what I felt all those many years ago when I first heard that song. I can rest easy now.

Thanks, Patrick - Frankie Valli wasn't the only one. Remember Dick and Dee Dee? The Beatles came at the right time and sounded like grown men.

Clever. As a big 4S and Frankie fan, I got a real kick out of this. Great to see the revival of interest in their music and milieu through Jersey Boys. They played up to the commercial market of course, but they were damn good. The astute musicality of Bob Gaudio also had a lot to do with it. There were some great falsettos around in those days: Brian Wilson, Lou Christie, Del Shannon, was it Bob Henley of the Newbeats. Roy Orbison could whip out a killer falsetto too. Best line - Grow up laddie, you can't be castratti.
