I read the news today, oh man
About a bug that will invade the land
Well, this news, it made me quite mad
But I just had to laugh
Seeing the photograph
They come here from somewhere afar
They didn't notice that their skin had changed
A crowd of people ran and screamed
We'd seen them here before
We didn't know for sure
If they would hit all the right chords
I saw a film today, oh boy
Alfred Hitchcock had just gotten the rights
A crowd of people flocked to see
I just couldn't look
But I read the book
I'd love to squash you dead

Woke up, got out of bed
Cicadas singing in my head
Found my way outside and stepped on one
Looking up, I saw a million more
Found my Raid and grabbed it quick
Killed a bunch in seconds flat
Found my way inside and passed right out
Heard voices saying, it's only a dream

I read the news today, oh boy
Five million Cicadas are in the trees
And though these bugs are rather small
We had to kill them all
Now we know how many bugs it takes to fill the garbage cans
I'd love to squash you dead
