The Lyrics

Here is the first track from my parody "album", "White". I have decided to publish the entire album here with some reluctance, but since this site is devoted to the art form of Parody, I believe it has a place here for artistic sake. For the Beatles' so-called "White Album", I took my parody-writing technique of stream-of-consciousness wordage and rhyming to completely change every song (except 'Revolution 9'). In each case, I wrote the new words with very little regards to comprehensibility or thematic sense, yet still focusing on pacing of the original lyrics. Many of these basically "wrote themselves" after much concentration. Some of the results came out funny; some came out to bizarre poetry; others turned into eerie nightmares. No one should over-analyse these songs. In some ways you could say writing these songs were therapeutic, as our own Malcolm Higgins has attested. "Daddy's New Car" is an example of an "eerie nightmare", so I don't expect 5's for Funny in this, or many of the other parodies to follow from this "album", but I would appreciate any comments. I took this writing technique one step further by ignoring the original melody of each song and recording them as an entirely NEW song in my terribly non-professional, homegrown 'Residents on a low budget' freak-show type of recording technique. Brave souls who would be interested in receiving this music via cassette for a reasonable price may contact me at [email protected].
Blew up the Bronco truck for all history
Did it all up just for spite
Then again it was my destiny
Whether it was wrong or right

Now I crashed my daddy's new car
And I stole all his Playboys
Crashed up my daddy's new car

The resulting glare nearly burned my face
In the demilitarized zone
Hali Mary Mother, full of grace
Is that an expos-ed bone?

Now I crashed my daddy's new car
And I stole all his Playboys
Crashed up my daddy's new car

The headache pains make me want to shout
Liviing in the daily grind
I see the water dripping from the spout
That's what makes me go out of my mind

Crashed up my daddy's new car
And I stole all his Playboys
Crashed up my daddy's new car

Place a live grendade inside your lovers mouth
And tell 'em it won't bring 'em no harm
Get your switchblades and your cannons out
And turn on all your god-given charm

Crashed up my daddy's new car
And I stole all his Playboys
Crashed up my daddy's new car

The technique you describe here is exactly what I did with Johnnie's parody to create a new song. If you first change the lyrics, then the melody, then it's your song. If you're even mildly clever, no one would trace it back to the original inspiration unless you tell them. Oops, I guess you just did. Anyway, you can't be sued for ripping anyone off. Many people don't realize how many songs have been written this way, though it is a point we tried to make by posting ours.

not voting, wouldn't know what to give it, but you wanted comments. this parody, i think, was a bit TOO bizarre, i prefer something more...normal, i guess

sloatead, that's the kind of response I expected with this. That's cool. And I don't blame you one bit. This is not for everybody's taste. Songs that came out more funny are already on the site, such as "Wiggles" and "Sins of the Well-To-Do". More to come. Rick--"Johnnie's Parody"--what are you referring to?

And why not "Revolution No. 9"?
Agrimorfee - February 04, 2004 - Report this comment
Why not Rev#9? It didn't come with any lyrics, and all by itself seems to be stream-of-consciousness anyway. And Rick's "parody", "De-evolution 9", could not be bettered or equaled. :) On my recording of the "album", I instead produced an original sound collage, titled "I Witness (News at) 9", based on the number 9 (Bach's 9th movement of his cello suite played upside down, sounds from 9 broadcast TV channels, the ninth lines of lyric from the songs I wrote, etc.). The song length, oddly enough, is 9 minutes and 9 seconds long. ;)

This is so good, if you have any cassettes left over from your first batch please send them to me at Am. Idol. We will pay anything you like, within reason
