Song Parodies -> "Uruguay"

Original Song Title:

"Yesterday"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"Uruguay"

Parody Written by:

Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

An humble homage to Kristof Robertson's brilliant new series, "Obscure Nations".

Uruguay
It's a country close to Paraguay
If you go there, I'd not drive, I'd fly
One look at map
And you'll know why

Click, click, click...
Does the crap on TV make you sick?
"Monte-Video": can rent a flick
Just go down there
And take your pick

Flor - i - da, ahhh, sigh...
Warm beach, lie; or so I'm told
Oops... whoops... error strong
Country wrong
That's why I'm cold! [1]

Uruguay
Falkland Islands: south, not quite nearby
Union Jack, brave British sailors fly
A victory
On seas so high [2]

If ... a-... -round Cape Horn
You are borne, it's on the way
There's... two... ways to say:
Urug-WHY
Or Urug-WAY (-ay, -ay, -ay)

Uruguay
Take her home, and on the sofa, try
Slide your hand up under dress, so sly
Up thigh -- oh, my!
Dang! You'reaguy!

[1] "Florida" -- a Department (State) in Uruguay. When you speak to your travel agent about your vacation, be very specific.

[2] In 1982, Great Britain defeated Argentina to retake the Falkland Islands (pop. 3060), unquestionably the UK's greatest achievement since inventing the water loo -- but at leat they had an exit strategy.

Good parody TT. I didn't even realize it was possible to place a link within a parody. . .I've never tried that, don't worry Chucky I won't either knowing that you don't want that:) Anyhow. . .Uruguay does not sound like a place I'd want to go. . .thanks for the heads up

ChuckyG: Sorry. They have been only to explain things withing the song, e. g., "Montevideo = capital of Uruguay", and generally only to Wiki, dictionary, or other songs here on AIR, but I will move these types of things to the bottom. Hadn't realized it was causing a problem. Apologize - it won't happen again.

Oh so now I see why my link to Rushdie on my "Slimy Ba$tards" parody today did not show blue as a link. TT - Chucky always liked you best. Mine got turned into ground chuck. I used to do this all the time before my 2+ year gap in writing. I guess I'll know now that it is verboten. TT - I really like the hidden hints in your parodies that relate to your "person"ality. You have to drop a house on some people. I really like your style TT. Great parody - the title just jumped off the screen at me and I knew I was in for an eye pleasin' and mind teasin' treat. Well done!

No need to be humble OR apologise, TT: this was a heap of fun. The more recognition we get for obscure countries, the happier this lilttle word'll be. Uruguay who knows how to entertain. 55

No driving to Uruguay...especially if you're in Europe! Well done!

Very clever word play and pUrdender benderin' here TT!
John Jenkins - November 01, 2007 - Report this comment
The Montevideo and Florida lines were inspired, but the Falklands Islands reference was a bit of a stretch.

ha - very funny TT, although I definitely agree with John Jenkins - and I'm thinking what, no lewd.....then I got to the last verse - ah, yes, my sense of order is restored! - 555

A surprise ending, reminiscent of "Lola". I have seen a reference to a "Kansas City, Nicaragua", though there is not much information beyond a notation that it exists. Paraguay once had a dictator who decided to go to war with Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay simultaneously. By the time it was over, there were only 25,000 people still living.

Below Average Dave, alvin, Walt Connor, Guy, AFW, Kristof Robertson, Jeff Reuben, TJC, John Jenkins, and Stuart McArthur, thanks, belatedly. To be frank (instead of Tommy), I didn't understand why ChuckyG couldn't have PM'd me or e-mailed me instead of that sudden ,harsh first comment without any previous (personal) warning. So I kept the promise in the last sentence of my reply, "It won'[t happen again", by not revisiting the site, even to reply to comments to this song, for almost seven months.

I now understand the economics of the web site business much better than I did four years ago, but at the time, just crawled back into the shell, which is what it's there for. ;)

Patrick: Indeed, re the "Lola' comparison. Hope you enjoyed. Thanks for the visit.
