Song Parodies -> "Ode to Gilligan"

Original Song Title:

"The Ballad of Gillian's Island"

Original Performer:

Sherwood Schwartz

Parody Song Title:

"Ode to Gilligan"

Parody Written by:

Francis J. Palumbo

The Lyrics

This is probably the best parody of Gilliagan's Island that there is. It has been performed to live audiences on the East Coast of the U.S. and has been featured on some mid-western morning radio shows.
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
of a TV producer's wit
The results of too much LSD
Hit after mighty hit...

They did their best to bring you there
Built an island on a set
"We'll dominate the other shows"
On this they placed their bet
On this they placed their bet...

The Nielsons started getting rough
The show was almost tossed
If not for the letters of dopey fans
The Minnow would be lost
The Minnow would be lost...

The best part of this tv show was its killer all-star cast:
an idiot...
an obnoxious slob...
a pompous ass
and his wife...
a braindead slut;
a professor and a Maryann
Its all TV Land jive!

Lines 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 don't pace quite right... but having also written parody for a radio chain, I know that their standards aren't as tough as at AmIRight. 455.

i heartily recommend reading Tom Carson's "Giligan's Wake" for a very unusual take on the GI mythos. Did you write this, Francis? Amiright only wants submissions from the original author.

Dear Agrimorfee, Thanks for your response, but I have to tell you, I'm quite confused. I read a book preview of TC "Gilligan's Wake", taking your suggestion. I've never heard of him or it, and I don't understand where he is coming from. However, I did write the parody in 1995, and I have videotapes of it being performed, and anything else one might need to validate its authenticity. If this Carson guy did something similar, I would love to know about it. People like us don't need to "borrow" material. That's why we're here.. to create and educate... Love to talk via email. Drop me a line.

Francis, I wasn't trying to imply that Carson ripped you off, or vice versa. I mentioned the book as an interesting side point. But I was getting the impression from your intro that the parody came from some other writer. If that was not the case, it's all cool. Getting radio air play is TOTALLY cool, as well. Peace.
