The Lyrics

The original milkshake that brought all the boys to the yard. The original version of this song was the B side of Rick Nelson's 1961 Number 1 hit "Travelin' Man," and was written by Gene Pitney, and it sounds like he sings backup on it, too.
Hello, dairy brew.
Cuisinart.
Sweet dairy brew, I got a jones for you.
I knew, dairy brew
I'd drink a quart.
So, hello, dairy brew, Cuisinart!

Was so hot that sunny day.
Soda fountain's on my way
and ooh, I need a drink with something more.
I sat right down upon the stool.
I ordered, this poor little fool
and though I never did drink you before

I said
Hello, dairy brew.
Cuisinart.
Sweet dairy brew, I got a jones for you.
I knew, dairy brew
I'd drink a quart.
So, hello, dairy brew, Cuisinart!

(guitar break by James Burton)

Went through my lips and down my throat.
Believe me, this drink gets my vote.
RC, that stuff you can just throw away.
I thought about a Grape Nehi.
Might make Radar O'Reilly cry
but I know what I'm gonna drink today.

Hey, hey.
Hello, dairy brew.
Cuisinart.
Sweet dairy brew, I got a jones for you.
I knew, dairy brew
I'd drink a quart.
So, hello, dairy brew, Cuisinart!
Yes, hello, dairy brew, Cuisinart!
Yes, hello, dairy brew, Cuisinart!

You do know his name was really Eric, right, Rick? Not Richard? Eric Hilliard Nelson.

Mike, this is much better than the lack of votes suggest. 555

Maybe if Pitney had written a third verse, I could have fleshed it out more and gotten more votes. But it was 1961, and songs had to be under 3 minutes to be taken seriously back then. "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" by the Righteous Brothers, an all-time classic from 1965, was 3:50, but listed as 3:05 on the label so DJs would play it. Not making that up. Or, as Billy Joel put it, "It was a beautiful song, but it ran too long. If you're gonna have a hit, you gotta make it fit. So they cut it down to 3:05."
