The Lyrics

The best authors on AIR have favorite themes or styles. John Barry likes intricate word play. Robert Arndt goes for weapons and geopolitics. Michael Pacholek does sports. I like to fantasize about cloning. Leough frequently references the influences and side effects of Jim Beam. On several occasions he has responded to my challenges with fantastic recreations of some of the most intricate and convoluted songs of Bob Dylan. Not long ago he produced a two-way smoosh of "Desolation Row" and "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". I am, of course, quite partial to "Pat McWilliams' Fans". He jokes about the alcohol, but talent like that doesn't come from a bottle.
A scheme, with assistance from Beam
A site where your talents will show
Your words, with a tune that you borrow
A port where the satirists go

To write the unwriteable song
To thirst, pour and taste from a jar
To strive, when your eyes are too bleary
That is what has made you a star

To do your best
To raise up the bar
A line to the rope-less
To lift the sub-par

To write through the night
With occasional pause
To be ready to scribble like hell
For a finely-tuned clause

And I know that you've always come through
To this madman's request
With fair lines, like a King David psalm
Though I made it in jest

Amiright is much better for this
That one man wrote of ship, mast and spars*
Throat sore, his tongue coated in fur-age
We crown him the Parody Czar
*"The Search for the Man From Nantucket", (as Leough Keough) was one of the first parodies I read when discovered AIR. It remains the standard by which I judge good parody writing.
