Parody Song Title:

"Little Sparrows"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

With the news of the imminent shutdown of submissions, I (Pippin) thought I had better pull my thumb out and get these into cyberspace while there was still time. I had been waiting for Merry to leave work and start doing parodies again, but this ship is sailing before hers. So, this is one of a number of submissions over the next few days that have been sitting in the vault - most for over 10 years.

Original song on YouTube

Bought some seed; a little feed, birding here is my new muse
And my Audubonic volumes I persistently peruse
Is it red or is it blue? I spied a nuthatch or a tit?
But ol’ brown things I’m attracting spoils my hobby quite a bit

Here they come flying out of the blue – little sparrows my feeders accrue
They wallow in bath again, wallow in bath again
Little sparrows not my choosing; little sparrows I abhor
They’re small and buff; I find those little sparrows are a bore
Little sparrows: not a bit engrossed with fifty shades of brown
Little sparrows that eat all my seedy, quickly wolf it down

Oh! There goes my grain...!

No house wrens and warblers hide, and there ain’t buntings that are blue
No woodpeckers, no cardinals, no vireos – won’t do!
Chickadees there's none in ‘scape, no kookaburra nor a finch
Man! Would love a little gannet just to turn up at a pinch

Here they come flying out of the blue – little sparrows, they swamp field of view
They’re swilling up all the grain, swilling up all the grain
Little sparrows are-n’t pleasing; little sparrows have no flair
Can’t score a dove; just mindless little sparrows everywhere
Wish a skylark would appear just once, would love a peregrine
Little avocet, that would be pretty, bird-ish kind of zen

There’s so many, my bird-watching’s screwed – little sparrows are makin’ me blue
They’re pooling in dust again, pooling in dust again
Little sparrows are annoying, little sparrows make me swear
Can’t find no thrush, but find these little buggers everywhere

Little sparrows then are fit for use: I’ll stick them in a pan
Little sparrows then make tasty pastry, also good in flan
Little sparrows I am loathing, for those blighters, I don’t care
Should get my gun and blow those little sparrows from the air
Little sparrows...
