The Lyrics

Jimmie Rogers recently passed away. In the 1960's he recorded this pretty little song about the flora and fauna to be found in a garden on the other side of the pond. Of course, I changed the locale and the contents to match something closer to home.
Leaves from a garden
Bread rolls that harden
A page from last week's grocery ad
Moldy potatoes, half-chewed tomatoes
That broken toy was last year's fad
Politicians' "Vote For Me"
Mingled with some storm debris
(D) and (R) find common ground
With filled up disposals and shut-it-down proposals
No good solution can be found

Plaster and concrete
Waste oil and spoiled meat
A paper filled with last week's news
Kleenex with one sneeze, blue jeans with torn knees
And half a pair of tennis shoes
Sticks and stones and broken bones
Obsolescent landline phones
Come to final resting place
And sooner or later, that leaky radiator
Goes to Kansas City's landfill

Ripped socks and worn shocks
Mood Rings and Pet Rocks
A book nobody ever read
Cornflakes and leaf rakes
Tent stakes and cupcakes
The mattress from a baby's bed
Busted Chinese cuckoo clocks
Contents of a litter box
An expired prescription pill
While discards compacting, there's activists reacting
To the Kansas City Landfill

Stuff in disorder
Junk from a hoarder
A cracked ceramic coffee cup
Ash from a fireplace
Things taking up space
Nobody cares where they wind up
Human productivity
Threatens the ecology
New grows old, it always will
When it finally meets doom
Better hope there's still room
In the Kansas City Landfill

I wonder if this vote was rigged.

This is the kind of switcheroo slash list parody slash title swap I like to come up with - but my first two tries for the original on Youtube from here (meaning it might be a regional issue) doesn't match the first verse of your writing. Can you provide a link to the OS version you worked with and I might fly by again later in the weekend.

This is definitely a different song to the "In an English country garden" tune I know, but it has a very easy to follow rhythm, and I had pretty much made up my own tune by the end: I think it's wonderful.

"Politicians' "Vote For Me"
Mingled with some storm debris
(D) and (R) find common ground"

...was inspired

I don't know the OS but this reads easily and has some good juxtapositions of the items found there. If you'd placed the setting in 'Jersey City Landfill' instead, you'd have faced the problem of finding a rhyme for 'Jimmy Hoffa.'

One more reason I'm glad I live in Kansas City and not Jersey City. Last year's election led to my mailbox being stuffed daily with campaign ads. I also saw a lot of yard signs. Guess where they ended up. There was a song I learned in grade school about sixth grade scholars that used this tune. It became my first parody, of sorts, when, about the age of 10 or 11, I changed the last lines from "With our great store of knowledge, we could go to college/We're sixth grade workers, can't to tell" to "But with our sins, we'll go to Hell". It's posted now somewhere on my amiright authors list. This is the Jimmie Rodgers version I consulted, though I may have been influenced by my sixth grade teacher:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUyxCP5Rvco It's great to get comments again.
