The Lyrics

Kristof Robertson's kind comment at our first Shakespeare/Springfield mashup might have started what *might* be a mini-series for us: Making classics more "accessible" to modern readers. So here is Volume II of "Shakespeare/Springfield". Don't like it? Blame Kristof! :-)

Video of original 45-rpm OS (Dusty, not Romeo ;) here.

Act II, Scene 2: Juliet's Home and Garden, as featured in "Bitter Homes And Gardens" Magazine

Just look as lovely light through yonder window breaks!
When Juliet shows, Romeo so shakes and aches
'Cause he's got a "Jones" on, this love-struck dude
But Capulet and Montague: unending feud
Pathetic, but it's true:
They're star-crossed lovers, these poor two!

ROMEO:
With love's light wings, I overperched the garden walls
I fear your kinsmens' swords less than my aching balls
And what love can do, that ... dares love, attempt
From enmity of family, am I exempt
Let death from them, ensue
I only want to Julie, woo

Un-shtupped, this guy, woe, he;
Snuck into her fam'ly's dance
Eye fell on Juliett-ish charms
Guy stiffens; stand, his lance

He's jissin' horny!

JULIET:
Why the heck must Romeo be Montague?

ROMEO:
For thee, dear, I would gladly bid my name "adieu"

JULIET:
'Cause what's in a name that ... could, love: defeat?
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet
An alias will do

ROMEO:
I'd be "Goldberg" to be with you!

[interlude]

JULIET:
Uh, oh: I've copped; should I be coy?

ROMEO:
Don't leave me unsatisfied

JULIET:
Satisfied? How, on our first night?

ROMEO:
Please say that you'll be my bride

Oh, hear him, Honey!

JULIET:
Dost thou love me, or dost merely court and spark?
A maiden blush bepaints my cheek, though it be dark
They say that Jove laughs at ... alll lover's lies
Don't swear you love me just to get between my thighs
Nor by inconstant moon
It's happening, but much too soon

Good-night! Our parting: such sorrow, but so sweet,
I'll say good-night till dawn's light, greet!

"Wishin' and hopin'" these collaborations continue, for "I've only had to read just two...." LOL!!!

A plague on both your houses...you've made worm's meat of all my works! LOL Great job. ;D
2Eagle - January 08, 2010 - Report this comment
Good melding. Now what can you do with Ophelia? That is a role more suited for Dusty the co dependent queen.

I know just what it is that makes a fine duo:
A lexi-clash of brash n’ class—a to-and-fro
With keen erudition and mash-ups bold
This FG/TT wry-um-vir-ate’s spinnin’ gold
And furthermore, it’s true…
They’re even hauter sans those ewes**!
;)

Note: This last remark has *not* been endorsed by the EEE (Ewenion of Eweninted Ewes).

William should've been this funny

Mark Scotti: LOL at the OS comeback! And be careful what you wish for, because in this case, you're sure to get it. ;) Thanks for v/c!

Old Man Ribber: For once, my friend, I must beg to differ: Thou hast crafted some fine pieces, mayhaps in different genres. Always enjoy the comments, too! Thanks! :D

2Eagle: Ophelia was mentioned in the first mashup (linked in the intro), as was Dusty's unfortunate life -- might wanna have a look (or not). But fear thee not, there will be more. As Bill Clinton always used to say, "Ophelia pain", and also gratitude for v/c. :)

TJC:
So fine to find a fan who FG/TT, groks

And writes, himself, a ribald romp that really rocks

His knee-oh-low-jism and mangled word

Have raised the bar from limbo-low to howls, absurd

Our thanks for vote from you

Verse comment, and disclaimer, too! :)

AFW: We're doing our best to fix that ... actually, there *is* a great deal of humor in his work, even the tragedies; just hard to understand Middle English with modern ears. We're working on that, too ... thanks for v/c!

Since TT was so awfully clever in his responses today, allow me just to echo "thanks" to Mark, OMR, 2Eagle, TJC, and AFW. Cheers to all!

Once again I've been out-Anna (and Budda-, for that matter) Pested at my own game... guess I'm a little dusty!

"Never leaving us alone; never have I ever known a Ruder-pest".

(Not you, silly, Zoltan Karpathy as described by Prof. Henry Tur -- I mean, Higgins, in My Fair Lady's "You Did it".)

Tech note: No anapests here (only ruderpests like TT); TOS is actually in classic iambic pentameter (+1 syl at the end) in lines 1, 2, and 4 of each main verse. Which, for some reason, TT noticed (he's weird that way), and that tortured chain of connection led to the Will/Dusty concept in the first place. Now you know. ;)

None of which alters the fact that I (and I'm sure, FG) enjoyed your comment thoroughly! :-)

Wow, that's the best playwright-based parody since "My Fair Fiddlegirl". I may read those parodies again. Nice to put the R&J into Dusty Springfield. I especially loved the way you put R&J into the story by adding their lines from the play. 555 stars for this one!

Hey, . whenever you tewe double post can I just paraphrase the 12 Days of Christmas and refer to your submissions as "Two Turtledoves"?
Zoltan peacin' out here!

You two have hit a rich seam of literary humour...this is magnificent. The combination of sophistication and fratboyishness is spot on. 555+

R&JF (Christie Marie M): Thanks! ... but methinks m'lady hath missed the first of the Shakespeare-based parodies,
http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/dustyspringfield43.shtml
Hope you like that one, too!

TJC: I'm OK with it; need FG's vote.;-)

Kristof Robertson: Whew! For a couple of days, I thought the time zone difference caused my message to you to be taken as referring to "Frosty", though much thanks for your kind comments there as well.
Thanks also, as mentioned, for encouraging the "Classic/(Semi-)Modern Mashup" vein, of which now many more are planned. Thanks for v/c here, as well. :-)
