The Lyrics

I found this great site, and it was somethin'
that I'd never seen anywhere else
I always thought I was creative
so, I thought I'd give it a shot myself
I wrote a song, thought it was funny
but now I know that was a lie
I waited a week, and still nothing
I guess I don't belong on Amiright

Hey, you won't vote me, cuz you don't like me
you think I suck and I guess you're right
But how many of you that just ignore me
have ever tried and failed at Amiright?

Folks like Arwen and Royce Miller
Rick Cormier and Airfarcewon
Red And and Phil Alexander
and the great Spaff.com
And other great parody writers
all their songs get praised and lots of fives
and yes, I know that they deserve them
but with one like me, they can't sympathize

Hey, you won't vote me cuz you don't like me
you think I suck and I guess you're right
But how many of you that just ignore me
have ever tried and failed at Amiright?

Hey, I think you done good, here...always liked this song, too...I believe Dwight Yoakum done this as a duet with Buck...back in the 90's I think....Don't get discouraged...we don't always get big votes and comments, either....scroll back a few days and read one I entitled.."That's Entry-tainment"...and keep yours comin'

Not sure what to say here, so I'll try to go slowly for both our benefits. Obviously you have been around long enough to know some of the better parodists here. Why I was listed in this group is a bit flattering and boggling at the same time. There are innumerable reasons why a parody may get overlooked/not commented on. I will elaborate a few of them here, from my standpoint.
1: Picking a song that is not well known to start with may garner few votes/low attention.
2. Simply posting a parody at the wrong time may cause it to get overlooked.
Everyone has different skill levels and by no means do I think anyone here sucks. Along the same lines, I have no dislike towards any parody author. There are many ways to increase your exposure. Here is a guide I'm still in the progress of revising for "newbies" ( as by all accounts I still am one having been here only 4 months ) though you might find it of some help. Check out Reply #38 on this link:

Included are 4 links to the FAQ and other parody writing guides.

PS: What AFW said is very good as well. I agree 100%.

Good one, and I feel your pain...I'm the one who wrote "Bye Bye Barry" (Bonds) a couple of months back and only got one vote. Incidentally, Buck DID have this out as a solo first in the 1960s, and Dwight teamed up with him in '87 and had a #1 duet with it.
Arwen - June 24, 2005 - Report this comment
You know, I was a HUGE fan of the Dwight/Buck duet...the original was before my time...but I canNOT, for the life of me, get the tune for the verses in my head. =(

I can't say whether or not I've ever commented on any of your other work...as I'm sure it's not all submitted under Failed Parody Writer...but I will say this: I try to comment on as many parodies as I can...but when time is short (which it seems to be a LOT lately) I sometimes have a bad habit of only checking those authors who I already love...and then I try to squeeze in original songs that I like. I have really tried to break that habit recently...and do try to get to all the songs that I know the OS's for.

I am sorry...I'd LOVE to check out your other work...because this is really well written. If you don't want to admit on here who you are, you can PM me on the message board...or email me at [email protected] and let me know...=)

Yeah, it kinda sucks when you write something good and nobody votes or whatever...I DKTOS on this OS so...I can't vote...I used to avoid writing parodies of songs I didn't think people would know...and I don't rush to post those when I do write them...but if I think I can write a good one I go ahead and do it...Hey - I can always trick and entrap one of my friends and make them listen to the OS and then read my parody...lol...the ones that don't 'get' parodies anyway just kind of nod and tell me "that's really good" and try to edge their way towards the nearest exit...I haven't been over here on the site much lately, but I happened to notice a couple of the above comments so I thought I would drop in...Keep writing...

Okay, I'll admit that since you mentioned me I feel I need to make a reponse. You know, I have periods in which I neither read nor write parodies; get tired of it. Have spent a great deal of mental energy writing and commenting at times, and have had the sense many times that people don't appreciate stuff that's written. But see, that doesn't stop me from submitting one if I feel like it. It's all up to you--you decide if you like it, keep doing it; you decide if you're gonna let people stop you; you decide everything.
Stuart McArthur - June 24, 2005 - Report this comment
Royce is right. When you do get discouraged (and it happens often) and then you find yourself submitting another one anyway, it starts to click that you really are writing these things for your own creative satisfaction and self-expression - and once you've made that realisation, it becomes less relevant whether you get comments or votes (although never IR-relevant, as they really are a nice reward)

As Arwen says, time is always pressing. When choosing parodies to read, in order, I scan thru authors first, then titles that sound amusing, then OS's that I know. I've never seen your name before, so I'd miss you on the first scan, but your interesting title got me on the second - and also from reading Latest Comments. If you want to get picked up from the authors scan (best option) then people have to know you, and you can help this by commenting a lot on other parodies

btw this was very well-written and deserves 5s

Stuart and Royce have very good points as well. I would like to know the parody you talked of, as this was very well written and I 555d it. I would also like to say the link I gave is by no means suggesting you are a "newbie" and that is just some things I have learned since I have been here.

DKTOS, but anything that includes the phrase "the great Spaff.com" is fives by me. One more piece of advice to add to all the others: Enter the Song of the Month contests. That'll guarantee 20 (or more) other authors checking out your work. Right now entries are being accepted for anything written during June. Check it out:
