"Hellish Subjunctive"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

It was found more, days of yore,
but today, it hardly lives,
so it roils us with less strife:
It’s the damned mood subjunctive.

En un país, not undone—
trailing on the Latin “tive”s*.
Spanish linguists’ keep these ways,
such as hellish subjunctive.

Speech that’s filled up with hellish subjunctive,
hellish subjunctive, hellish subjunctive.
Me, I’d banish the hellish subjunctive,
Spanish subjunctive to hell, sub- to live.

Some say Spanish is no chore,
but when this lingo you explore,
you’ll find, sometimes, hell to pay.

Teeming’s Spanish with hellish subjunctive;
hellish subjunctive, hell-sent subjunctive.
Deep in Spanish, the hellish subjunctive,
hellish subjunctive, swell-nix subjunctive.

(Must think ahead cuando hablar, must think ahead.
If your thinking ahead’s nada:
implication perturbation,
leading to ire.
Damn it! Cram it!!)

English nixed this blight nearly;
but it still crops up infrequently (infrequently!)
Were I you (were I you), I’d say don’t give (I’d say don’t give)
thought to hellish subjunctive…
(say, “Go to hell, subjunctive!!!!
Ta, ta!!!!!!”)

Take a shiv to the hellish subjunctive
hellish subjunctive, shred the subjunctive.
Verbal shiv to the hellish subjunctive,
shredded subjunctive, dreaded subjunctive.
Written shiv to the hellish subjunctive,
hellish subjunctive, nettling subjunctive.
Squeeze through a sieve, the hellish subjunctive,
hellish subjunctive, quell the subjunctive.
Wish we could/Doubt we will/Fear we won’t
kill the hellish subjunctive, undead-like ’twill live, hellish subjunctive.
