Never owned a Mustang..but have had some Fords, over the years...interesting and nostalgic parody

I helped restore my friend's '64 1/2 from the ground up, scavenging for parts from Mustang specialists and junkyards as well. The 260 "peanut" motor was so small that three guys could lift it easily and changing the oil filter was a breeze as you just reached in and changed it. I worked on the engine, headliner, seat, and gooseneck installations plus mounted the wheels and cosmetic attachments. My friend was the master mechanic/restorer/rebuilder. When we took it out for that first drive I was amazed that the manual steering made it almost impossible to make a tight U-turn and at a mere 75mph on the freeway there was massive vibration and noise inside. No air conditioner either. Funny how power steering and brakes plus air conditioning were options back then! But my friend also helped me restore my '77 Camaro (always jealous of my small block 350 and my Hurst in your lap shifter). I used to love to make her purr at around 2000-2200 rpm in 4th gear...

My first car was a '70 Mustang. I always like the 69-70 years the best; early ones to me seemed too boxy and later ones too slinky. I bought mine for $75. and sold it for $125! I hope it is still out there somewhere - the kid I sold it to was going to restore it. Later had a '74 Charger and a '66 Charger. Now I am driving a d*mn toaster on wheels - sigh.

As a young pup of 12 when I saw my first Bond film in a theatre, "Diamonds Are Forever", I vowed two things: my first car would be a '71 Mustang Mach 1. The girlfriend in the passenger seat would stongly resemble Jill St. John. My first car was a '78 Ford Fairmont, the girl...more like Jill St. Bernard. :(

LOL. The "Jill St. Bernard" punchline made my day. Coulda been worse tho', coulda been "Jill St. Outhouse"
