The Lyrics

This is the fifth instalment from "The Unfortunates" - a total re-write of "Les Miserables". Connor is the reformed rogue trader who is now an MP. Before he was jailed for losing £2billion in a fraudulent scheme, he had a few amorous affairs. This song is immediately after he has been told some news he wasn't expecting!
WHAT AM I?

Connor

Poor Travers is confused.
He said that I was weird!
I wouldn’t call me that!
I’m glad I shaved my beard!
I don’t care if he knows
As I have done no wrong
I’ve come a long way since
And managed all along.
If I tell, he might despair
If I keep quiet, I won’t care!
I’m now the MP for thousands of people
They look up to me.
I will do my best for them, so they can live
But not for free!
If I tell, he might despair
If I keep quiet, I won’t care!

What am I?
Can I condone the way I used to be,
I broke a bank as everyone could see.
Used money which was never mine
I paid the price, I served my time.

What am I?
But ever since I’ve been above the law
And now I’m not the man I was before.
I changed my name to Gordon Glee
And recently became MP
That is me!
But now I’ve found a lady I once knew
Who tells me that I have a child somewhere.
I don’t deny the fact, I know
I loved somebody long ago
Who showed me love when I was sad
She made me happy, made me glad
(He stands proud)
What am I?
What am I?
I’m a bloody Dad!

And I can see, it must be true
Right now I know what I must do.
What am I?
I’m a new proud Dad!

In this age of computers it is harder for someone to change his ways and identity. The world is not a forgiving place. I look forward to your unfolding of this classic tale in modern guise. You are near to this site, so I want you to know that I do not use the numerical rating system. I've written a few "les Mis" parodies myself, though I never tried to tie them together in a narrative. The first song I ever heard from Les Mis was "Do You Hear The People Sing". I think the Thenardier (Innkeeper) Song is the crowd favorite at every performance I've seen.
