The Lyrics

This is a parody of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I always relate this song to that game, so I thought I'd make this. Enjoy!
Zant used to rule the world.
But, of course, someone deterred.
That stereotypical guy in green.
No, the one who’s not heard but seen.

Zant used to hold the reins.
Keep resistances locked in chains.
As Link headed toward Hyrule
He thought, “This guy’s no threat, this guy’s a fool.”

The minute Link crossed the line,
Zant began his vile design.
Yes, his Shadow Beasts were way deformed.
But Link had his Triforce, then he transformed.

Midna came and set Wolf Link free
And criticized him immediately.
She only helped when she wanted, darn it.
Sometimes she looked like evil incarnate.
It must tricky for her to floss.
You sure she’s not the final boss?
Yes, it is a bit absurd,
but that was when Zant ruled the world.

Yes, they journeyed through the wild and weird.
Randomly, Shadow Beasts appeared.
And dungeons always where they least expect.
Finding keys, maps, and more stuff to collect.

Helped some man with sixty souls.
And succeeded in his goals
To bring light back to the many lands.
And get Hyrule and such out of Zant’s hands.

Colin was a brave gir-, I mean boy.
The mailman’s a prime target to destroy.
That worthless slingshot was never used.
The Oocas were blatantly abused.
And for some reason that’s left untold
The best shield’s owned by a three-year old
Yes, it’s a bit absurd,
But that was when Zant ruled the world.

And Ganondorf was, of course, behind it.
The Triforce, they didn’t need to find it.
Zant stole Fused Shadows, wanted Midna dead.
Though didn’t take that one that’s on Midna’s head.
Though Zelda disappeared from image,
She still was captured and held hostage.
Yes, it’s very absurd,
But that was when Zant ruled the world.

I know that game quite well - the first time I played it it took 80 hours (according to the game log) to beat it and I had help, but I did much better the second time around. There was some awkward phrasing and the pacing didn't seem right in the beginning, but the first chorus was really good and the same for most of the other two. Those Oocacas or however that's spelled certainly took a beating.

I double-checked all my pacing, and I can't find a problem with it. Oh well. Thanks for the comment!

What were you using to check your pacing? In the second line, the original goes "Seas would rise when I gave the word", which matches up with the first part of your line but not the second. Syllable mismatches are dangerous with all songs but especially with tunes that as as slow as the beginning of "Viva La Vida". It can also be confusing when syllables match per line but the words in the parody start in the middle of corresponding words from the OS.

I could have used "somebody" instead to make the syllables match, but the emphasis is on the end of the word which throws off the line. I just made the word "someone"drag out an extra beat like other parody writers do. That's probably what I did in all of the other times when pacing seems odd. You can play around with it until you get it sounding right.

I would like to note, however, that it should be spelled "Oocca" in the parody. Same pronunciation.
