Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).
Boyz II Men - Legacy: Greatest Hits Collection album at Amazon.com
Although we go, beauty and the sorrow
Still I can't let go
It's so natural.
Although we've come, to the end of the road
Still I can't let you go
It's unnatural.
The Story: I sung those lyrics for 10 years without anyone noticing, until my big sister asked how I could sing that without noticing that the title of the song is actually "End of the Road". - Submitted by: Aroha Momtgonery
I’m gonna take my clothes off to you
I’m gonna take my clothes off too
The Story: The actual lyric is so simple, so incredibly simple. But my 9 year old brain decided to change it into a weird kind of nonexistent idiom, in which he’s “taking his clothes off to (the young lady)”, like he’s raising a toast to her beauty, celebrating it. That’s genuinely what I thought he was talking about. “Dang, she’s so fine! I’ll drink to that! And I’ll take my clothes off, too.” I was so dumb as a child! It hurts my brain! - Submitted by: Sarah Perry
Like you want me, too
Like you want me to
The Story: I often confused myself between “to” and “too”. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Gonna swallow my brain, feel it slowly
Stomp on your fingers, the blame is on me.
Gonna swallow my pride, say I'm sorry
Stop pointing fingers, the blame is on me.
The Story: I asked my sister why someone would sing about swallowing his brai. She looked at me funny and asked me to sing the song. She then burst out laughing and said, "He said, 'Swallow his pride!!'" Then trying to save face, I said, "Well, then he goes on about stomping on fingers." And she started laughing even harder and said, "He said 'Stop pointing fingers!!'" She proceeded to tell everyone she knew about my faux pa. - Submitted by: Niki
I'm gonna swallow my pride
Say I'm sorry
Stomp on your fingers
The blame is on me.
I'm gonna swallow my pride
Say I'm sorry
Stop pointing fingers
The blame is on me.
The Story: My friend Tim was singing along and he was the one who actually misheard "stomp on your fingers". I thought it was funny, because why would he stomp on her hand if he's trying to apologize? - Submitted by: Kristin
It's not late
Let's not wait
The Story: It really made me think how they would not wait until the water runs dry. It really made more sense to mishear it their way than what they really said. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Let's grow up
Let's not wait
The Story: I never would have thought it sounded like "Let's not wait". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
