Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Adele's,
"Chasing Pavements"
Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing cyborgs?
Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing sidewalks?
The Story: I just get this image of Adele chasing the Terminator or something equally spectacular.. - Submitted by: Psaracog
I changed who I was to put your balls first
I changed who I was to put you both first
The Story: I was listening to pop music on my Alexa, and thought that adele was saying "I changed who I was to put your balls first". I was very confused because that would be pretty creepy, but then I looked up the lyrics and it made more sense! - Submitted by: idk want to say, so my new name is Bobby McMuffin
When I am drowning in these islands
When I am drowning in this silence
The Story: Also the "feeeEEEEeeeeeEEEeel the hworld around me" makes me wonder if Adele eeeeeeeeEEEEeeeeats at Hwhaterburger when she visits Texas... - Submitted by: Ceej
At least I can see that I've dried.
At least I can say that I've tried.
The Story: When I heard the song for the first time, I thought "Why can she see that she'd dried?" I read the actual lyrics and said to myself, "That explains it!" - Submitted by: Ben W.
Hello from the other side
I must have fallen down and died
Hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
The Story: The "haunting" nature of Adele's singing would be even more poignant if the 'other side' really was intended to be something from beyond the grave. Unfortunately, it wasn't. - Submitted by: Jeffrey
They say that time's supposed to feed ya
But it ain't done much feeding
They say that time's supposed to heal ya
But it ain't done much healing
The Story: This is quite silly really as I was at a restaurant where this was on and my twin said the word "feeding" litterally at the same time Adele sings it and from then on, it has always sounded like feeding to me! - Submitted by: Bella Cadelle
Adele's,
"Rolling In The Deep"
You held my heart inside of your hands
But you played it, you played it, you played it, you played it too deep.
You had my heart and soul in your hand
But you played it, you played it, you played it, you played it to the beat.
The Story: Naturally, I was thinking about baseball when I heard these lyrics. - Submitted by: Debbie Duz Dallas
Adele's,
"Rolling In The Deep"
You're gonna wish you never had red meat
You're gonna wish you never had met me.
The Story: I've always been vegetarian and ever since I was very little, all I've ever heard in Rolling in the deep is "never had red meat" and I was like #relatable - Submitted by: piperrr
Adele's,
"Rolling in the Deep"
Cheesy butter ball
Tears are going to fall
The Story: When the song first came out and it was on the radio a lot I was listening closely to the back up singers or whatever the correct term for them is, and I thought they were singing "cheesy butter ball," when I told others they didn't believe me although after a while they could hear it also. My brother had thought they said "Jesus knows all." Maybe I will make that a different misheard lyric. - Submitted by: Sarah Young
Adele's,
"Rolling in the Deep"
Throw your skull through every open door.
Throw your soul through every open door.
The Story: I had first heard this line the misheard way, then began wondering whether she was saying "skull" or "soul". Then I checked a lyrics site to make sure I had the whole line right before posting it under nonsensical lyrics. That is when I found "soul", not "skull", to be in the correct lyrics. The line is "far out" and nonsensical either way, so I didn't have much of a guess as to which hearing (if either) was correct based on which would make more sense. After all, on discovering the real lyrics, I found the real line turns out to be at least equally "far out" and nonsensical! One couldn't throw one's soul any more than one's skull. Come to think of it, by jerking one's head around, one might do what could be called "throwing one's skull". So the misheard lyrics could arguably be MORE feasible than the real ones! - Submitted by: Karen Smith
Adele's,
"Rolling in the Deep"
We’re gonna miss you, rolling in the deep.
You’re gonna wish you never had met me.
The Story: I thought these were the lyrics for a LONG time. - Submitted by: BrilliantJ8
Adele's,
"Rolling in the Deep"
You held my heart inside of your head.
You had my heart inside of your hand.
The Story: I had always heard this line the misheard way, until I checked a lyrics site to make sure I had the whole line right before posting it under nonsensical lyrics. Before that I'd been confident I heard the line correctly, especially the "inside of your head" part. Even though the line is "far out" and nonsensical that way, I didn't question it, since much of the rest of the song is similarly "far out". After all, on discovering the real lyrics, I found the real line turns out to be equally "far out" and nonsensical! - Submitted by: Karen Smith

Adele's,
"Send My Love (to Your New Lover)"
Summer love turned into Latin love
Send my love to your new lover.
The Story: I knew surely that wasn't what Adele was saying. I had to finally look up the lyrics because I had no clue what she was really saying at that point in the song. It still makes me laugh that it sounds so much like what I initially heard though that I still sing it that way sometimes. - Submitted by: June Powell
Adele's,
"Set Fire To The Rain"
That hard true porn must be waiting for you
That heart you caught
The Story: I was just listening to the song and I heard porn, so I repeated that part and kept hearing ”That hard true porn must be waiting for you”. I also called my little brother and he listened to it and also heard the same thing. When I googled up the lyrics I was surprised that it was actually ”That heart you caught must be waiting for you”. I started to wonder how caught could sound like porn. And it got me thinking, maybe she said porn purposely. - Submitted by: Gideon
Adele's,

When a murderer comes.
As I hear your screaming and drowning, your fate.
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!
The Story: I seriously thought this was a Halloween song until I looked up the lyrics. I had no idea what the song was about until I looked it up. I thought she was singing about a murderer coming to try and kill someone that may be saved. - Submitted by: Jet Li
